  1. Also, as usual, my concerns are trivial compared to what other Head-Casers are facing. I hope you escape your predicament unscathed, Nate. I had to help a friend who had pipes burst in his house, and it was an unmitigated disaster. It sounds like you've been keeping a close eye on things and taking the necessary steps to protect your house from freezing. My father, who was an eccentric and paranoid man, put an 800lb Nashua stove in my the basement of this house when he bought it. The sole purpose of the stove is to keep the pipes from freezing during a prolonged power outage. I have never fired it myself. It's big enough to burn bodies.
  2. In spite of myself, I did not bid on this thing. The Conrad Johnson PF-1 preamp, the first solid state pre they made. It's a handsome unit (in that stodgy C-J way) has lots of I/O, is rack mount (a big plus for me) an looks to be really clean. $340 shipped isn't a bad price, but... I didn't bid at the last moment, and I'm glad I passed. Looking at the pictures carefully I saw this: See that "L" at the end of the serial number? That means this is a Line level only version, and lacks a phono stage. I'd have been might peeved if I found that out after I bid. There's a C-J PV-7 tube pre ending in a few days that I have my eyes on: Pictures will look familiar to select Head-Casers.
  3. ScarJo a one-note actor as well. Though she is a veritable thespian compared to Jessica Alba. She couldn't out-act a mannequin. Or Kim Cattrall. Go ahead make those "thespian" jokes, I know you want to.
  4. What does the ortho snob cognoscenti think of YH-3s? There's a pair on the 'Bay that I have my eye on.
  5. That sucks, dude. The contractor who's been working on my house is without power, but he says it should be back on by Monday. I hope for his sake that it is. He has a propane heater, but it needs electricity (for a blower fan?) Fortunately, he has a wood stove. So far, I've gotten off very lucky. Power is still on (knock on wood) but I do have about 3 inches of water in my basement. 0_o
  6. I imagine a real one would be really hard to clean, not to mention a PITA to store. Cute, though.
  7. Alex Skolnick from Testament, that's it. He's actually a really cool cat. Sometime in the early 90s, he got sick of metal and re-invented himself as a jazz guitarist. He played Amherst College a number of years ago, in a room where I used to do sound. Unfortunately, I was not the soundman that night and I missed the show. I'd liked to have seen him.
  8. True dat. Mea culpa. Unfortunately, Google image search says otherwise.
  9. This is enough to get me to listen to Wagner. NSFW.
