Damn, I had missed this (April 15, 2013). In my opinion, the best trumpet player to ever live. A huge musical influence on me even though I was a percussionist/timpanist (my twin brother was a very good trumpet player, with the Northbrook Sym. for a number of years). I met him probably around 1980 or so when he was guest artist with the regional symphony orchestra I played with when I was in school. Since my brother was 2nd trumpet in the orchestra, I was also invited to the reception/party afterwards hosted by the brass faculty. He indelibly impressed me with his graciousness and humility. I can't remember what he played, maybe the Hummel, but when I congratulated him on what a nice job he did, he seemed genuinely embarrassed. Quite the contrast to some of the divas, etc. that were guest artists at times! In talking to him, since I was/am a big Mahler fan bois, I asked him what his favorite Mahler symphony to play was. He replied "The 5th". I asked him why, thinking the 2nd or 3rd (with the posthorn solo), or maybe even the 8th might be. Yeah, neat article Vicki. I like what I have seen of Dave Kirk a lot. Very helpful poster on thepaceline also. Rode into work again today, gorgeous out, nice to have a fitness center here for a quick shower and change. The Trek is working out pretty well so far, though I still prefer the Raleigh by quite a margin. EDIT: Also forgot to mention, bike is looking good Raffy!

^ I would agree. I'm pretty sure my Saris Bones would fit over the spoiler on my wife's '04 Accord. I can try it out tonight if you want. Me: rode to work for the first time. It was probably around 40F or so when I left. Overdressed a bit and got slightly warm. Didn't get hit by anyone, so that's a good thing (depending upon perspective ), but will need to tweak the route slightly. Overall the route worked well. A little over 8 miles, so not that far.

Didn't go on the Saturday morning ride of 33 miles that I had been invited to. Got up in time, but just felt wiped out so went back to bed Looked like they had a good time though (albeit at 34 degrees). Would have been an hour drive each way. Did do 16 miles yesterday, which kinda wiped me out. Must be a real wuss It was pretty windy though.

Makes me sad and angrier every time I see a picture of that poor kid that died. sigh

Thats what, 31 miles? In a group, I would think you should be able to do that. I'm supposed to go do a ~30 mile ride on Saturday with some peeps from bikeforums. Would be around 34-36 F starting, high is only supposed to be 50 for the day, but light wind, so we'll see I have only done about 15 miles for the longest ride so far since winter seems to be hanging around.

Always liked watching NFL games with him and John Madden doing the play by play. Much preferable to Cosell, Meredith, etc., at least for me. Not mentioned in a couple of articles was his announcing of the Masters golf tournament for 20+ years, always (IIRC) with Ken Venturi. RIP...

Agree with Parris... the frame is the most important part, then the components. I would guess somewhere in the $250-$350 range. Miele's aren't particularly in demand. I don't know if you posted pics in your original post or not. Drive side pics if you do.

Nice Brent! Xavier looks like he's into it. And nice also Nate. Me: was having a hard time getting motivated to ride yesterday (first really nice day mid 50s, light wind). Finally got out and did 13 miles with a hill repeat. Much less than the 25+ I had planned on. Just felt lazy and lethargic all day.

Hope your niece is OK Ken. Going down at that speed would suck.

You can't lower the stem to achieve the same thing? I would guess not being threadless, unless you have spacers in there?

Gene, You can always throw a pair of khaki or other shorts on over the biking shorts (lycra). You might like the compression from them as well. Chris
