What to do next?
Freak. So I brought an iPod as a source using RockBox software on it. The old 'pod doesn't get out much. I had set it up for some other pair of 'phones...and apparently had set it to headbanger mode because the bass was set too high. I caught it just a bit ago when listening to Audioslave and the bass was stupidly distorted. I thought wtf? Now that it's adjusted back to normal, this is a nice combination. Far more musical than it was this morning on the same tunes. Coolio.

What to do next?
Speaking of socks, I have Clayton/Hamilton Jazz Orchestra on now. Sounds pretty durn good so these might be far more recording dependent than I thought. Weird. Just a touch dry, but better. Oh god, Nature Boy is on this album. gack.

What to do next?
Good call. Yeah, you're probably right. But I should loop through all of the gear I have just in case This might be the right place for one of those "good lord what a bright sounding source" finds. Thanks for the reply, man.

What to do next?
Listening now. And while they are enjoyable, I'm gonna say that there is not the right synergy withy a CK2III. They are both a bit laid back which could be good for some of the work I do (which needs my undivided attention) but when I'm on autopilot I might want a bit more upfront sound. I saw someone had paired these with an M3. That might provide me what I'm looking for... Beefy said: "I still really like their overall tone. But more recently I'm finding them too closed and congested, and not lively enough by comparison to my other gear." That's what I'm hearing. I'll need to figure out what I was listening to when I first heard these because this is not what I remember. Ah well, no worries. They're still nice. Just gotta get the right amp now.

How do you get rid of Noisy Frogs?
Not a lot you can do. My last house had a pond with a small waterfall. Frogs loved it. Even when I camped out 15 feet away to try and grab a few for "transport" they would remain completely silent. WIth one foot inside my back door...braap, back they came. Just remember that their mating noises are seasonal. (all I can think of at this point is the Far Side panel with the frog translation of "hey baby, hey baby.") For noise suppression, you could add a fan or white noise generator to your room which does a pretty good job. That and the ear plugs.

Crack;Bottlehead OTL
Yes, crappy. The answer is yes. Exemplary work on that amp, Beefy. Looks like textbook work for a Bottlehead project. Doc B. would be proud. Congrats!

HD800? Another rumor?
That's true. I do know people like that. I laugh when people compare the other 'phile types to audiophile. Somehow audiophile has pariah-like consequences.

Does my Onkyo C-S5VL Internal AMP sounds as good as WA6
Jack Woo will arrive at your home shortly to reclaim the WA6. Ignore his tears.

HD800? Another rumor?
Rockwell says, "Audiophiles love audio and equipment, but rarely music." Asshole. No, I have no music degree, I didn't grow up around music, I didn't play four instruments before I was 16. No, I don't love music. What an undereducated clam.

I'm not seeing a place to upload avatars. I can see the edit page for them, but the only two options are: Enter a URL to an online avatar image -or- enter your Gravatar e-mail address I usually roll my own here. Is there an option for uploading pics like there is for the profile photo? Thanks. I know it's been a lot of hard work.

Looks great. I'll hit up the mobile site with my Droid later this evening. At dinner. I'll probably get a salad fork thrown at me, but it's a job I must take on. And yeah, it is fast. Me like.

Cable vendor slapped for unproven claims (UK)
Not tasteful. Perhaps the fragrance of soil would be more suitable. :basement:

What are you listening to Part the Third
T.Rex - Electric Warrior. Brilliant. I'm certain I've never heard it all the way through in my life. I've missed out.

Sounds like your speakers are not set up correctly in the room. Try one of the FAQs on audioasylum, like the Cardas speaker setup link. Once that's dialed in, I'd get the sub close to your left or right speaker, but definitely not centered between them. I haven't looked in to this recently, so I'm not toally up on the latest. Speaker setup is a long process. I bought a pair of Tube Traps a little over a year ago and as part of the cost they did a measurement-based room analysis for me. My speakers are futher out into the room now, and sound better than ever. It'll take a bit to get used to the lack of room boom from your main speakers, but you'll get smoother overall sound. Also, to assist your ears, if you have a computer or laptop in that room, try Room EQ Wizard. With that and a basic calibrated mic, you can take some good measurements to confirm any differences you might be hearing. Finally, head over ot the Rives Audio forum on AudioAsylum. I'll bet there are decent sub placement discussions already logged.

Cool! Enjoy and get it in a part fo the room that doesn't hype-up any wild boomy frequencies. My last house (sold in 2003) seemed to outsmart us, always breaking things that would keep us from selling it. I think it liked us too much. Good luck to you. As for my purchases, I ordered a pair of ATH-ESW9A for work. Now to plan for a good work DAC.

Advice on some power conditioning
Usually what you'll get with one is better duplex receptacles and better connector wiring inside. Home Depot strips are built to a price point based on highest margin (likely, anyway) so the crap factor would be high if it retailed at $15. If you've ever ripped one apart, you'll find that many are not even wired together. They have weird form-fitted metal strips connecting the works up instead. From my own experience, I had one'a them HomeDe'Po strips around when I was auditioning a Shunyata unit (conditioner). The biggest shock in the weekend demo was not how good everything sounded when using the Shunyata, but how truly awful everything was when going back to the cheap power strip. Good gawd. Soundstage collapsed, noise showed up, and an amazing batch of bleh was injected into my tunes. Synergistic is making a strip, and you might even be able to find an older AudioPrism, although both proably retail for around $500. They seem a little expensive. You might be able to find a metal-framed power strip at HD and then retrofit it with better receptacles and wiring for less. Do.U.DIY?

I heard that combo in October. I thought it worked really well, although the music was unfamiliar.
