  1. I did just as Pars suggests for an Aikido pre-amp I built a while back. I used DB connectors instead of the Amphenols though. Very happy with the results. Me
  2. A rather artistic way of bundling wires together is to rip 1/2" by 12" strips from an old sheet. Wrap wires and tie into a bow. If you use a white sheet, you can dye them with Rite to match the color of the wires. Me
  3. I'm having a not so close friend test the 3 wire theory this afternoon. Will post results. Me
  4. Nate, I feel your pain. I did some minor plumbing repairs on my toilet earlier in the week and when I turned the water back on, my pressure relief valve on my boiler had a slow leak. Went to the HVAC distributor and bought a replacement 30 psi valve. Installed it and it now leaked like an open faucet. Thinking that this one might be bad also, I traded this new one for another. Same problem. This time I noticed that the system pressure was up to 60 PSI when I re-pressurized the system, not good. Soooo, after doing a more through examination, I found that my main system feeder valve is leaking, my pressure regulator is not functioning, and my pressure tank is completely filled with water. Looks like I'm going to make some one rich this coming week. Me
  5. I'll second what nikongod said. I built my CK2III about a year ago and have been very satisfied. I also agree that casing can be the most challenging part of this or any other build (and most expensive). Another plus is there is a lot of help available on AMB's web site. Me
  6. To everyone, the best and a happy New Year!
  7. I used a Goldpoint in mine and have been very happy. Me
  8. Finished my KSA5 and am very pleased after a relativly short listening session. Board parts are standard from the BOM with extra attention paid to closely matching the parts. Goldpoint controls, Vampire RCA's, SUMR transformer. A big thank you to Kevin Gilmore for making this project possible! Me
  9. Stocks dwindling, got 50 each myself. Me
  10. I've used Bay Area Circuits (http://store.bayareacircuits.com/) for a number of projects and have been more than happy. They also have an online viewer so you can see what the boards will look like. Me
  11. If what you mean by 'slipping' is a feeling of flex in the rods while turning, it depends. On both a M3 build and an Aikido (picture below) there is no feel of flex when turning normally. However, when going past the limits of the switches/volume control you can feel some flex. The M3 has less flex than the Aikido due to it having shorter shafting, but not by much. I plan on using the same shafting when I finish casing my KSA4. Me
  12. I have used Delrin rods on 2 different builds and have been very happy with the results. Electrical isolation is my main reason for use but cost and easier machining also weigh in. Me
  13. A bit more work done on my KSA5. Power supply boxed up and ready to go. I have started boxing up the amp board, but still have lots of work to go. A few pictures. Me
  14. A bunch of years ago, I was watching an episode of "Gomer Pyle" where he was tasked to do some cooking. One of the items he prepared was bacon. His method was simple, 1/8 tsp of sugar per strip. I tried it and "surprise, surprise, surprise", it was awesome Me
  15. I went looking for a copy of Beethoven's Violin Concerto in my CD collection. Didn't have one but found a copy of Beethoven's Piano Concertos 3 & 4 with Alfred Brendel at the piano and James Levine conductiong. I am not going to call it my favorite but both were great! I'll have to get a copy of his violin concerto mentioned by OP. Me
  16. Repaired my M&K MX-125 subwoofer. The thing kept blowing fuses sooooo I pulled the plate amp and the transformer. Lucked out and found an internally shorted 10,000 uf cap right off the bat. I replaced that one and the other 10 electrolytic caps while I was at it. Works just fine now. BTW: At the beginning of the week, before attempting a repair, I contacted M&K to see if they could repair the amp. Still waiting on a reply. At the same time, I also contacted the transformer manufacturer (Paraline) for specs and to see if they had a replacement version just in case mine was bad.. Another no reply. You can bet that I will rember both companies in the future. Me
  17. Wow! Two outstanding builds in a row. Me
  18. Awesome work! Hope mine turns out this nice! Me
  19. Without the servos I get 67.5mv on the left and 76.5mv on the right. Me
  20. I finally finished populating my amp board. Went a bit nuts on component matching, resistors to less than .1% and transistors to less than 3%. I wired up the boards and ran some square, sine, and triangle waves through it. Every thing appeared perfect on the scope. Bias was easy to dial in. It was time for some listening. I spent about equal time listening with my HD 600's and DT880's (600 ohm) and I have to say they both sounded great. Everything from Gerswin to Joplin to Kodo...this amp does every thing right! Next step is casing. Me
  21. This item is normally stocked at Walmart in the (of all places) the electronics department. Beware though, that this is a best seller and quickly sells out. Best to shop early on a Thursday morning after the shelves are freshly stocked! Me
