  2. I had bad luck with a Canon P&S. It had to go back once for repair under warranty (still have to pay shipping) and then failed again just after warranty. I replaced it with a Panasonic and have been using it since. So I also recommend the Panasonic. They are great for everything except night photography.
  3. My condolences to you and your family. We lost a cat 11 years ago to coyotes. Our cats have been indoor cats ever since.

Well, I'm too lazy to check out the battery access and am not going to see if it will survive a 10' fall on concrete. The case is hard plastic with a soft plastic cover. It comes with a temperature probe and with decent probe-type leads. How this compares to a Fluke I can't say. Maybe you should order one and tell me. Otherwise you can wait for an experienced DIY guy to receive his and then get an informed report. Meanwhile, I'll go search for some clip-type leads tomorrow.

Wouldn't know. I've never had the pleasure of feeling a Fluke. It seems to be fine to me.

I got mine a couple of days ago. It looks like the meter in the ad. It seems to be built well enough. I've done a few simple measurements. So far I'm happy as a clam. Edit: Instructions aren't great but that won't affect most of you.
  7. It can vary, but typically you need a 1/16" hex wrench to remove the 4 bolts that hold the bottom to the top. Just turn the amp over, remove the 4 bolts and remove the bottom. All of the guts are attached to the top.
  8. Do you ask this question a lot? That might explain the recent lack of GFs.
  9. You can use the "Singlepower method", which is to solder a paper clip across the void.

    Your death will be sinister.
  11. Yes. The truth is that once it became clear exactly what Mikhail was and wasn't, I found it quite easy to write him off. I also expected the worst though. Even though it was working, I wanted somebody knowledgeable to look at my Extreme. The results of that did not surprise me. Then I decided I had better check the very expensive tube he sold me. Oops, not surprised again. It could have been worse. I do have the attenuator and BGs that I paid too much for. Lots of people didn't get their overpriced enhancements. Now there's nothing left that he could have cheated me on. Mostly I just wanted to warn people that Mikhail had issues with things other than his amps.

I like BMWs, but not enough to pay for them. However, the boss insists on owning BMWs so I get her castoffs. The current castoff is a 2000 323i. At least I was smart enough to get the Sports Package when we ordered it.

What's the difference between a porcupine and a BMW? With a porcupine, the pricks are on the outside.
  14. I just discovered my latest Mikhail "gotcha". At his last public appearance, the June 2008 NorCal meet, I bought a NOS 6385 tube from Mikhail for what turned out to be about 50% more than the going price at the time. Later I wrote that off as more bad dealings with Mikhail. Today, I stuck it on the Jackson 648A tube tester I recently bought. Both sections test at ~30%. So he got me twice, once for the exorbitant price and once for a bad tube at that price. I'm posting this to warn you to test all tubes that you might have bought from Mikhail. There is a good chance that some/many of them are bad. The good news is that now that my Extreme has been made reliable (and better sounding) and finding out about this tube, I've worked through all possible things that can go wrong with Mikhail. I'll never buy another thing from him so it's now a great day and I can move on to better things.

Have you considered a Lootin' Audio modified D7000? It's better than everything.
  20. You might as well keep it, Vicky. Even after it is "certified" to be safe, the value of SP products has fallen through the floor. This is not surprising. So it's unlikely that you could sell it for anything near what it's really worth. I'm going to keep mine until it dies. Then I'll look for something new (or used) to replace it.

All of this is good advice. There is a good chance the kitten has worms or other illnesses. Take him to a vet for a checkup. Most cats choose their owners and it looks like this one has chosen you. Keep him inside (outside cats have a much shorter lifespan that indoor cats), take good care of him, give him lots of love and you will be rewarded with a loving, entertaining companion. P.S. You've greatly increased your karma points, don't toss them away.

Hey, I ordered one first. I can't help it if all of you sheep had to do the same thing. Maybe we should buy one and ship it to ipodpj for review. After he states that it's the best DMM in existence, we'll all know we got good shit.
  23. No more Heartbreak Hotel, eh Elvis? Congrats.

Oops, didn't read down far enough. I assumed it came without leads. Eventually I'll want clip-on leads so we'll see if they are included.
