  1. Happy Birthday Tony!
  2. Sorry to hear about the "incident" but am glad to hear that things worked out. If anybody asks me for a wedding cake recommendation, I'll point them your way. Just so you know, it's "ganache" in English (and French).

  5. Let's see who I should believe. On one have I have Vicki's input. She's contributed a lot to both HF and HC and not once have I ever seen her do something even slightly shady. On the other hand we have the fellow who runs "Lootin Audio". This is the same fellow who wrote a scathing review of the HD800 including his most famous words, calling it "slowwwwww". Now there are things to not like about the HD800, but being slow isn't one of them. Then later, probably after seeing how well the HD800 was accepted by his target market, he decided that he really liked the HD800 and it would be perfect if only people bought his high $ cable. This is a really hard decision to decide which one of these people I trust. I'm going to have to think about it for awhile and get back to you when I decide.
  6. Happy Birthday, Jack! :prettyprincess:
  7. I have a question for you. In none of your posts do you say you need a wireless router. Yet the G and N you talk about are short for 802.11G and 802.11N. These are both wireless protocols. So are you going to connect to your router with a wired, or wireless connection? First let's assume wired. A 100 Mbit/sec (100Base-T) connection will make the internet connection the slow point and that is your goal. So you'd need a router that also has at least 1 100Base-T port. You also need an ethernet adapter in your PC that supports 100Base-T. Most modern PCs already have that. Now let's assume that you are going to connect to the router via a wireless connection. Here are the theoretical maximum transfer rates of standard G and N protocols: G: 54 Mbit/sec N: >100 Mbit/sec So to get the maximum out of your PC, you'll have to use 802.11N. No matter which wireless protocol you decide to use, again you will have to be sure that your PC's wireless adapter will support that protocol. For more information about wireless protocols and their performance, check out this link. HTH rather than confuses.
  8. "We are not entertained!"
  9. I remember it coming out just in time for CanJam 2008. Of course, my memory is shot these days.
  10. Once it gets harder, you might want to try a pill gun or pill pockets.
  11. Can't really remember. Probably something from La Superica or El Sitio in SB.
  12. 2 tickets to see "Dave Brubeck 2009" at the Lobero theater in SB on Sept 22.
  13. Translation: If you didn't make any mistakes in building it, it powers up just fine the first time.
  14. Yesterday, did a lunch ride to Johnny's in Ventura with a friend. Johnny's is the "best burrito joint in the world" according to this poster in Sunset Magazine (near bottom of page). I don't know if that's true, but the Pork and Chile Relleno burrito I had was the best burrito I've tasted since returning to California in 1988.
  15. Are you sure this wasn't a Scottish Wimp Festival? Why would they be tossing pickled, immature flower buds?
  16. Isn't the Vincent a Chinese amp? The OP has already said he's not interested in Chinese amps.
  17. Sorry to hear about your bad day Vicki. I'll drink some whisky for you. Glad that you had your phone and JH13 Pros with you.
  18. Calling Ironbutt. Come in Steve. I think that r2r's can make the best sounding sources. Steve's is wonderful and Doc Bottlehead's $15k setup at the recent NorCal meet was absolutely killer. The problems with them are: 1. They are awful fiddly. 2. Good recordings are really expensive. Here is the tapeproject run by Doc Bottlehead. Tapes are $300 each. 3. Skipping around on them (seeking) is a slow pain in the butt. They work best when you set up the tape and then let it play. Please note that I know very little about modern r2r playing. Steve and others can give you more educated information.
  19. Did Mikhail ever work on this amp? Instead of wallwarts, maybe he stuck an iPod in it.
  20. Shouldn't this have been posted in the "What are you drinking?" thread?
  21. Depends on where you move to the desert. Phoenix and Tucson used to be great havens for allergy sufferers. Now both have so much grass and other non-native plants that they are very bad for most people with allergy issues. Are you sure you're not a vampire?
  22. Thanks. I didn't realize how cheap they were. Doh! I should have checked. For their price, I can afford a bad tube from time to time. I was looking at a tester that can test everything from 4 pin tubes up to the compactrons. Of course, it was more than I wanted to spend. No I don't have to. Yay!
  23. That too. Sorry, should have said "new friends", though you'll probably be visited by existing friends too. I'm smart enough to count to three. Three posts up from your post is a post by Naaman.
