  1. It depends on what method you are using to break it in.
  2. It's been my experience that Sony doesn't seem to be able to learn anything about customer service.

My geography is generally pretty good. My weaknesses are Africa and the asian former soviet republics. The map in this test is very difficult for small countries and worthless for islands, where all you see is the flag. I took the test 3 times and got: 60% (too many African countries) 90% 90%
  4. Have you looked at the Bottlehead kits? You would seem to be the kind of customer they are trying to address. You have the skill to build/modify them.
  5. If you like them better than anything else you've heard and want them, by all means you should get them. Who cares what anybody else says. The idea is to please yourself, not others. Enjoy them!
  6. Hey Mike, don't you really mean "from the Bay Area"? Or are you starting to export vinyl from Florida to there?
  7. As I said in an earlier post in this thread, Voltron's SDS-XLR qualifies. The K701 was recabled and balanced though, so maybe that's not fair.
  8. Heresy! Heresy! Get the stake and wood. Hmm, that would make an interesting emoticon too.
  9. Then why are you going to build one of his amps? Or did someone else design it?

I must have missed my free coffee. I'll free mine in a moment though.
  11. I took "headspace" to mean that with headphones, unlike live performances and speakers, the soundstage goes from left through your head to right, assuming no blobs. To me, it's almost as if I'm laying just in front of the music group. The sound is left to right and mostly eye (or ear) level and above. With speakers, the sound is left to right and out in front of you, like a live performance. I do agree with your description that good imaging headphones produce a continuous music stage left to right without any blobs and that too many headphones have blobs.
  12. Welcome to HeadCase. Sorry about your thin skin. Burn-in is the fotm (or maybe "all time") magic elixir at HF. It fixes all problems. Interesting, 701s have never sound strident to me. In fact it's always been the opposite. They sounded too bland. That was until I heard them out of Voltron's SDS-XLR where they came alive. So I think that amplification is very important to get good sound out of a 701.
  13. I've come to appreciate Jude's policy. I see it's in HC's best interest.
  14. Costco sells a bag of 10 (I think) for under $10 in the automotive section.
  15. They don't sound too bad with a Platinum Extreme either.
  16. You might want to ask the question at audioasylum. You'll get lots of good responses there.

Hopefully it's nobody on this site. It's one thing to call oicdn on his douchebaggery when he does it, but an attack like this out of the blue just fosters sympathy for him and actually supports his position. So if it is somebody on this site, please stop doing things like this. If you must rag on him, just wait for him to post and eventually he'll do something that you can call him on.
  18. Definitely. It would have been "amurican indian" if it just refered to the USA.

I see he now has MOT status there. Doesn't that mean no more reviews and no more adding to his "markl mods" thread?

We need sheep and/or lemming emoticons.
  21. Ah, the late 70's, when Disco was king! I think we all try to forget about that.
