  1. yeah, excellent work Steve! Before you know it, you won't need me to make cables for you: [img width=150 height=112 alt=P1010089]http://www.head-case.org/gallery2/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=1935&g2_serialNumber=2&g2_GALLERYSID=b2ba85e3d45c2872a9d85ea30129cccd
  2. oh yeah, a lot more. Perhaps deepak will have a table for sale soon? I'd go with a Rega Planar 3 myself with RB300 arm.
  3. just looked at my BH BOM and was around $75 fron boltdepot and fastener-express, so yeah it can add up... I'm still missing a few odd sized items too, like black socket drive 105 degree head screws, which are still unobtanium as far as I can tell.
  4. steve: I got the banana jacks from this same vendor ... I have no idea dimensions, but once they get here I'll send them your way. Same with the spikes.
  5. looks like he's in the HW-19 camp as well
  6. yup, I had to add a filter to my DIY Xono. I can get the values if need be, as they were taken directly from a real production Pass Xono, where the filter is non-defeatable. Just let me know.
  7. no, it starts off "bad" and gets amazing You're in for a ride. The main thing that gets so wonderful are the highs, and this why I love these cartridges so much. Tons of detail too... Analytical without being overly so. The bass will tighten up hen deepen and loose that woolly character it has now. I've been through the ride three times now. All cartridges were new when they got to me. I use a block of sticky tac on top of the arm to weigh it down and looking into fashioning some custom delrin headshell weight. My next tonearm will be a Moerch, but I'll still need the SB someday. I have a friend in town with the Galibrier Serac and XYZ UNIverse with a Triplanar arm. Quite an amazing combo. Wait, didn't you PM me about a DAC?
  8. it's a wonderful cartridge. I haven't owned the Yatra, but I have had the Fuji and Airy cartridges and now the entry-level Bloom. If the silver basement was available for the Bloom, I probably wouldn't ever upgrade. I will warn you, there's a good amount of break-in. I think they really take around 250 hours to fully get up and going, but the first big change came around 75 hours. You'll notice it. Also, all of my ZYX really seemed to like 1.85-1.9g tracking and were extremely sensitive to changes in VTF. I could definitely hear changes in 0.02g increments. Did you go with the low output version? Congrats!!
  9. (unfortunately) I got that phrase from a cartoon my son watches about a blue octopus named Oswald, whose voice is none other than Fred Savage. He has a friend who lives next door named Henry who is a penguin (whose voice is David Landers aka "Squiggy"). One episode, Henry's cousin visits from "The Frozen North". Cousin Louie is played by Michael McKean (who played Lenny). Pretty funny stuff...
  10. I've recabled two pairs of SR-007 and two ESP-950s. It's not hard at all, I say for for it. Alex's recommendation of using a desoldering pump is a very good one.
  11. they do sound great at 620v bias. Please plan accordingly. The luvdunhill one-stop-'stat-shop is in its busy season but might be able to squeeze you in
  12. I have a SR-007 cable that I might be willing to sell if you're interested... or a Koss->Stax adaptor thingy...
  13. yes, the temperature ratings are one important thing, but I worry more about things like output transistors. Actual die temperatures aren't something that you can easily measure, nor simply read off a component. If you're oversubscribing parts, then you're in uncharted territory. Whether the devices last a day, week, month, years is something that is unknown and is probably a function of how sane the designer was.
  14. my rule of thumb is nothing (except perhaps tube envelopes) should ever be 15-20C above ambient. If you live in the frozen north, maybe higher, but I live in Texas
  15. hm, $1000 is a really tough recommendation. I don't like the VPI Scout. I'd rather have a VPI HW-19 mk3 over the Scout... Anyways, I think for the $1k mark I'd go vintage with a custom plinth. Maybe a Lenco L75. There's one for $175 on Ebay, add a arm say Origin Live Silver or even a stock RB300 and then the rest for the restore... My $0.02...
  16. I believe they were released for the Genesis as well. edit: Amiga, Apple IIGS, Atari ST, Apple Macintosh, MS-DOS, Mega Drive/Genesis, Commodore 64, CD-i
  17. only thing that makes me not very excited about this is the following statement: "All 30 classic, re-mastered levels from Dark Castle and Beyond Dark Castle integrated into a new, extensive quest!" now, the 25 orbs is awesome, but I'm betting it will be a lot of rehashing the other two games. edit: I'm assuming you're hard-core enough to already be running the originals in an emulator on your PC, right?
  18. Spritzer probably go his information from me. They quoted me $100 for the arc + headpad, or $50 separately. Obviously the audiophile banter was the key here.
  19. dunno, I listened to the beta22 and my PPAv2 with the HD-650 and really think that it doesn't do them justice. Especially the highs, they're painfully bright and piercing, even for me. I've heard them on the Headamp amps as well and was equally unimpressed. Now, the 600s I think do better on solid state than the 650s, but I have to say I may be in the minority here then
  20. Just to throw something out there. Has anyone heard the 580/600/650 on a solid state amplifier that sounds half-way decent? I am about at the point where I'd almost say uncategorically that these 'phones need tubes.
  21. I got parts for a Japanese SR-007 without an serial number hassle. Just told him what I wanted after a few minutes of audiophile banter on the phone.
  22. why two bias supplies? why not either a single adjustable supply, or one supply plus a dropping resistor?
  23. I was guessing turntable setup items... all seemed to fit
