  1. You're just now getting to these? These are like H.C. staples, man.
  2. I skimmed it, but it was clear about the 'controversial' part in the email blast, that he was going to suggest as much. I did read a few of the comments. heh
  3. glanced at this in Gmail for all of about 5 seconds before losing interest. I try to mount my hard drives on a 45 degree slant, because if you short stroke your drives, then PRAT is enhanced in an organic, rhythmic motion with each rotation, which counters jitter.

  5. Pretty much as good as it gets.
  6. mother of god. Monk is inside the speakers
  7. OSX leopard (most recent before snow leopard) Fire Fox 3.5.2 Link doesnt work either. edit: Safari is working at the moment. I'll just use that.
  8. Anyone ever get this message before, when logging in to Gmail? The page sits in a state of constant refresh. I had no problems accessing stuff from work earlier today

  10. I'd insist on extra money or discount for filling that shit out.
  11. Time for a keyboard update for my office.
  12. I'm definitely not grasping something here, I'm just not sure what. I thought that if I was going to use the Sony receiver and send the unamplified signal out to a power amp, that the Sony was the decoder you mention. So for television purposes, the Sony would act as the DAC, and instead of using its internal amplification, use a dedicated external amp. I do have the Sony XA-5400ES, which would go to the receiver via HDMI, which is definitely the optimal connection between the two. I'm assuming that sending this signal out to external amps after its reached the receiver would not be at a significant SQ loss (after all the whole point would be better SQ) ?
  13. Hmm, interesting. I was looking at amps and this Bryston 9B SST has basically the perfect specs for what I'd be getting. I guess I'd have to run pre-outs from the Sony unit through a preamp of some sort, then to the Bryston. Probably more complicated than its worth, I don't know. I'm just not sure how nice the amp sections of the Sony receiver will be with revealing speakers like Thiel. I guess I could always just skip the surrounds and go with 2.0 to get a similar Bryston amp sooner. Too many choices.
  14. Thanks. I didn't see the manual, must not have searched hard enough.
  15. I'm thinking of getting the Sony STR-DA6400ES to pair with my 5400ES for home theater use once I move. There is a review somewhere that mentions you have to tell the unit via the GUI if you're using 4 ohm speakers, as it alters itself to avoid being overworked. This would probably not be until I get my tax return, but I'd probably like to get the Thiel SCS4 monitors for basically everything; left, right, center and surrounds. Since they are 4 ohm speakers, I'm trying to get an idea of how much power the receiver would supply to them. Its stated to be 130 watts X 7 for 8 ohms, but I don't know if its double that at 4 ohms, or if the receiver adjusts itself to be 130 x 7 at 4 ohms. I can't seem to find anything about its output into 4 ohm loads. Is it as simple as a doubling of watts? Anyone know?
