Heat and Amps
I never realized the raptor used a switching supply. Boooooo. My Ear HP4 gets what I would call warm, but never hot. If my window and door are closed, with the computer running and the fan off, then it probably would get significantly hotter; my computer is a freaking space heater. In purely scientific terms, I estimate the average heat after 5 hours of use to be equal to that of a plate holding food that has been in a microwave for 30 seconds to one minute. I've never opened the case, so I am only going by the metal top (which is also vented btw).

What are you reading now?
^^ Reminds me of a quote I like about the newspapers: If you don't read the paper, you're uninformed;if you do read the paper, you're misinformed". (Mark Twain)

Best MP3 encoder?
I dont think lame is that bad, (320 KB), I think it just is no match for another encoder recently discussed. Lame is still the best MP3 encoder that is publicly available, as far as I know. Dusty, I know you have computer recording stuff; I would bet Digidesign and similar companies may offer encoders with their products. Or maybe Steinberg Cubase or similar. I think the two basic options are open source LAME and proprietary commercial stuff. Though admittedly, I stick to lossless mah self.

Way to go Head-Fi
Like I said over there, there are plenty of boxy CSS sites with everything centered, and nothing on the sides. I have no problem focusing my attention to the middle of the screen on those. With the new HF change, you basically just focus at a 'golden ratio' point, more or less. Plus the scrollbar is better now, so I actually think its an improvement.

Tiger in the house
I wonder if someone could make FLAC compatible via the SDK. That would be pretty kickass.

Ultrasone HFI-780
I thought he was someone else. A post of his was almost verbatim the post of the person I (still) think he is. Speech pattern is also similar in said post too.

I'm not banned from Headfi. I guess since I post more at head-case, that still makes me a loser in your eyes, but then again, you post here... At least I have more than $67 of spare change lying around

For a variety of reasons, I'd really like to pick one of these up. Actually two. Optical audio out, music streaming, wireless internet, etc. I also hope to have a mac somewhere down the road. I know these are Mac + PC compatible, but what I haven't seen answered is whether or not it can be installed from a PC, without ever going through a Mac at all. Is it PC-compatible in a PC-only scenario? I know it can be used to extend the range of a wireless network, but the wireless in my house is an ancient Linksys turd; I'd like to use the airports as THE wireless network. (and in a pc-only environment until I get my Mac)- slow forum
those signs are a bitch to put up. You forget a letter, and they all have to come out. Especially aggravating if the sign is high in the air; you have to use a long stick with suction cups to put them up there, and the letters always fall off the cups. Uggh, that drudges up awful memories...- Post the last thing you bought!
Well the one I had earlier was flawless, but I only had it for a short time. I have used LaCie, WD, Seagate and Fantom Drives too. I prefer the Cavalry to all of them. It is the quietest of the bunch, the coolest temp. of the bunch, and it also comes with eSata, in the best packaging of any drive I've ever got. They have some similar models for about $50 more that offer raid capabilities too. For my current needs, I wanted maximum storage space in as little physical space as possible (so I got JBOD). Hopefully this one will be just as quiet and cool as the last one I had.- Post the last thing you bought!
Judging from a previous one I used, it was whisper quiet and cool to the touch. Only after loading around 300 gigs did it get infinitesimally above room temp I intend to get a second one for backup soon too.- Post the last thing you bought!
