Creaky W5ky
Speaking of AT, I finally had a listen to a set of Art 900s today at work and they're a lot better than I was expecting. Don't creak as much as the 5000 either. I was pleasantly surprised. More bass and better comfort even though they're essentially the same design.

Ah, interesting. I took the back off mine, looked at it for a while, scratched my head and screwed it back on

Do the newer drivers still have that big resistor across the connectors? The one on my Lambda is pretty large and sticks up quite a way. It's a lot bigger than the SR-X/Gamma one.- Koss ESP/950 electrostat thread
Hey fucker, that's my idea!! I'm going to do that exact same thing. I even have some nice wood set aside for a faceplate. Mine will be an all in one for Stax P/N Sony, K1k and Ortho.- The Orthodynamic Thread
The Lambda woody looks difficult to do because of how the wiring and cable strain are squeezed in there. That's one of the reasons the rear cover is tapered that way, it wouldn't fit if it was thin all the way across.- The Orthodynamic Thread
Yeah, stupid stax. Anyway, the Koss UR 20(?) is in bits now and they look like ideal candidates for a closed SFI. The baffles have cutouts to angle the driver and are shaped to fit the ears properly and are large enough for big-ass cups. I did a pad taper mod on them so it'll keep the drivers close to the ear and will probably work really well with the mounting plate. The K240 version will be open and felt damped. We'll see which ones win.- The Orthodynamic Thread
Let's just say I'm not the most cautious or careful when messing about with cheap stuff. Especially when I know more are easily available. I've tried so many configs now, some requiring tight and awkward spaces that the pins get bent way more times than they were ever designed to take.- The Headcase Stax thread
But it has that creamy rich sound you all love- The Headcase pico Lovefest: Post your impressions here
Yep, that does indeed look very nice. Congrats Nenso.- The Headcase Stax thread
You want bass, try some Mercan Dede and A perfect Circles' lullaby . The only phones I have that don't tremble before them are the 003 (which go deeper, cleaner than most other phones I've come across) and Smegma Pro. Everything else I have struggles or hits the stops at more than moderate levels.- New AKG K702
I wonder who thought those bumps were a good idea. While they may help ventilation they certainly don't help comfort. That was the first thing I noticed when I put the 701 on my noggin. Next thing I noticed was that they sounded a bit blah. Ok but nothing I'd spend hundreds of bucks on.- Koss ESP/950 electrostat thread
Nice! They look just like my old A250, except for the bit that says *Electrostatic*- The Orthodynamic Thread
I wouldn't say swanky, but it'll do the job Just waiting for the drivers to turn up so I can put it all together. I already broke the connector tabs on three of my 32 ohm drivers screwing around. As to the plate mount on the SFI. I don't know what it looks like yet so I'll have to see when the get here. I know one thing, the K240 will be a lot heavier and more solid when I've finished with them- Any way to find out if these are sr60 or 80?
hehe- New AKG K702
Yah, pretty much by the sound of it.- Creaky W5ky
I can't figure out why AT hasn't fixed this yet. They do creak an excessive amount. I'd be wary of applying silicone, it's not exactly electrically or finish friendly.- The Orthodynamic Thread
I'd love to find an affordable T-50 V1, in fact, I'd go as far as to trade Steve's penis for it too. It seems very well respected (the phones not the penis). A well designed modern ortho could theoretically make a fantastic phone. The tech is there, it only needs someone to dew eet. Until then, we have limited options, at least the SFI drivers are cheap. I'm half way through modding a K240 fosterfone to fit some of the 120 Ohm SFIs.- Happy Birthday to 909!

Damnation Jack, sweet fucking amp! Congrats- Post your childhood pics
All my pics are back in England.- n_maher, so how is it with your new bundle of joy?
Cute little teeny- The Headcase Stax thread
Deranged is right. They look quite good sitting upright like mini desk speakers, turn them sideways and stick them to your head and it takes on a whole new look Thankfully, Ludo over on H-F sent me some busted K240s to use as SFI foster phones, and with them a very nice pad of thick and dense wool felt which is perfect for lining the insides, they sound pretty good with it in the wood housings. It's that stuff under the earpad in the pictures. I also have a busted set of Koss UR-20s which I've taken the strap/loop headband off, now I just need to make a mounting fixture to stick it together with the cups. Should work and be very comfy. Lambda woodies? You mean the Wedge thingy on mine or something else?- Wanted: Full size ATH-ES7
Denon D5000? I hear tell that has bloaty bass. I think a few here may have heard both the D5000 and the ATH-ES7. I've heard the 9 and while not very honky or bright, it does have walloping boomy bass, not at all like the W5000. - The Orthodynamic Thread
