  1. Damn Tachikoma, that's cheap. Good find, although we'll now have to shun you and expel you from team budget Stax.
  2. Exciting times, I loves all my staxes. I get the distinct impression I'll end up totally planar at some point.
  3. Hah, I haven't seen one of those Stantons in decades! Nice shot.
  4. Funnily enough, I want to try the Sigma Pro before the Omegas. The Sigmas are too wacky to ignore.
  5. Crap! soon I'm going to be the only one on H-C without an Omega. How will I ever fit in with the cool kids....
  6. Damnation those little amps are pretty. What kind of price did you get them for? Congrats on the new toys and have fun listening.
  7. He probably did what I used to do, read mags and visit/phone high end hi-fi shops. Expensive shit was around a long time before the internets and I always managed to find it
  8. Happy Birthday Young. Hope to see you again next meet
  9. Pity, there's no end of expensive/super expensive 'stat amps out there but very little for those of us on a tight budget, and realistically, who's gonna buy a BH to run Gammas, SR-X, SR-5 or lambdas. It makes no financial sense and all we're left with is not so hot Stax amps. That's why I use transformers. I sold my 313s because they aren't very good and there's a whole lot more lower end Stax phones than Omegas or 4070s.
  10. When is someone (reliable) going to make a decent cheap stat amp to compete with the lower end Stax models?
  11. Ice cream cone
  12. I'm good for one, maybe two 5am stints but then I'm toast.
  13. Bah, I never seem to see O2s at reasonable prices, come to think of it everyone seems to buy them out of thin air as I never even see adverts! Even with an O2 I'd have to run it off the SRD-7, no Blue Hawaii for this poor moth eaten wallet. Anyway, I'm sending one of my K1000s to Asr in the morning so he can play with them on his new Beta 22 for a couple of weeks.
  14. I hate you. I hate you all....
  15. I bet those Joe Grados sound spiffy on the Zana too. Jealousy meter rising....
  16. The 340 is still on my list of phones I'd like to hear rather than just hear about. I've almost bitten a few times but 'stats usually end up winning the attention and cash I'm hoping somebody will bring a set to one of the meets we have up here. I don't think there are any 340s around here though.
  17. Niiiiice! It's getting so that Head Case will have the highest concentration of O2s per capita on the whole world-wide interwebses.
  18. Hehe, I think someone's excited Congrats on the new baby, err, Duet. I'm sure you'll be very happy together.
  19. I'm using a SRD-7MkII, though even my SRD-6SB sounds good with my SR-Lambda. Running a big-ass power amp through them gives them big balls. I don't have an Omega and the Omega may well need more juice than the SRD's can provide from what I've read, however, for the rest, they're great. As I've said previously, I'd put these up against anything else I've heard with confidence.
  20. Yes It's definitely a problem with some Stax amps. It's one of the reasons I went back to transformers. Also, I can't afford the real hi-end offerings and a good speaker amp plus transformers is, to my ears, more dynamic, more edgy with good bite. I don't find my Staxes lacking dynamics or life in any way now. I personally don't line the super smooth, relaxed sound some prefer, I like mine to have some spiky bits and a touch of sharpness. Even if I lose a little in the way of detail it's a worthwhile tradeoff for me. I've been modding and tweaking my Staxes to tune them for my preferences and they are killer now. Those wild moments come with aplomb. I don't really care what type of transducer I listen to as long as it sounds great to me, so far it's just working out that 'stats are doing it best, they produce the ideal sound for me and when you get it sorted there's no lack of dynamics or musicality going on. I was giving myself a good blast of classical last night and the hairs on my back still go up and when a crescendo comes, you know it.
  21. Got up at 10am, fed the cats, did the dishes and took a shower with wifey. Listened to some music then went down town for brunch. Took a leisurely drive back home by the lake. Went to the garage to do some woodworking. Going for the isobaric SFI trials. Once again I failed miserably, only one side works. I think I've finally managed to kill some of my SFI drivers after numerous experiments with them. Need to get some more.... Took it on the chin like a man and decided to watch some shitty Star Trek Enterprise as consolation. Gonna relax and veg out for the rest of the evening. Time to go make some tea and have a smoke on the deck. Smeggs out.
  22. I wouldn't place bets.
  23. Pfft, I've got headphones bigger than those speakers. Anyhow, 9" high and the perfect conversation piece speaker stand
  24. It's a pretty strong reaction to something, and it's very tender so It may not be a strict allergy as you say. I've never had any allergies before and at 49 I think it's a bit late to be developing them now. It's been minor for a few weeks and then just exploded on me Friday night and Saturday. Damn thing has been waking me up at night itching.
