  1. I haven't heard the Omega yet so can't speak to that. I wasn't a big fan of the 303/404, I preferred the Gamma Pro and SR-X Mk3 to them. They do have a family resemblance but of course they are still very different from one another. The new Lambdas have more bass, are more diffuse and ethereal sounding and have odd highs to my ears. I found the mids a bit recessed too. The bass quantity is good but not the feel. I find the older models superior in that regard. Lots of people like the sound of the 303/404s better though and it seems I'm in the minority on that so don't take my word for anything other than my opinion.

Home improvements? What kind of crazy talk is that?

I love the smell of freshly sanded cocobolo in the morning. I've worked with cocobolo in the past with no problems. Right now I have Rosewood, walnut, paduak, madrona, maple and bloodwood. No telling which one is a problem or if all are. I'm taking Zyrtek at the mo' as benedryl makes me sleepy and I'm also using some cortisone cream, still...wont....stop...itching....
  4. Another couple of Forstner bits and some sanding disks, plus work gloves seeing as I'm now apparently allergic to stupid wood! *sigh* :'(
  5. I'm not entirely sure there is a Stax 'low end' as they all sound pretty spectacular, more so with some mods. Those old drivers can produce some real magic, and testing my cheap old 'low end' stuff against some of the highest end dynamics out there I can safely say I wouldn't trade with any on a sound basis. Seriously, my 3 top cans combined came in at less than $600 all together and I've yet to hear anything that can best them. HD 650, K701, K1000, HP-2, W-5000, L-3000, RS-1, DTs etc. None of these win though the K1k is on a level footing.

Yeah, bit of a bummer but I'll live. I've never come across this before so it's a bit of a surprise I can tell you. Anyway, I'll just have to make sure I'm covered up while working. I don't like wearing gloves when I'm playing but I guess I'll have to make accommodations from now on. If I can figure out what wood is doing it that'd be good. Goggles, mask, gloves and now probably a one-piece romper suit and I will end up looking like that dumb picture above

This one does, I really don't want to be allergic to one of my fave hobbies 'cos that'd suck big hairy donkey balls! I think I may have the answer though....

I've never been allergic to anything my whole life, been woodworking on and off for decades and now it seems I've become allergic to certain woods! I've been getting little tender bumps on my fingertips for a few weeks and now after a couple of days going at it my whole hands and parts of my arms are now filled with a rash that's both very sore and itches like a fucker. I don't know which wood(s) might be causing it but it's really depressing. I ordered some barrier cream, got some work gloves and am taking Zyrtec and rubbing cortizone cream to get the itching down. I don't know why it's only affecting my hands as there's dust and chippings everywhere when I'm working. Anyone else have anything like this?

52 for me but I refuse to walk anywhere on principle.
  10. I should probably get some of these too, I'm in the same 8 o'clock situation, and that's with the 'low' output setting on my amp with the Staxes!
  11. Thanks Yep, all pointed the right way, The fat part of the normal housing goes to the front so the wedge goes at the back to angle the drivers at the ear.
  12. They taste damn good too!

Smegma Pro Semggy ECR-500 Slambda (sigma/lambda hybrid) K1000 < not a 'stat but the best dynamic I've heard. All four are the very top of the pile for me.
  14. Smeggy replied to tkam's topic in Headphones
I still can't afford an O2, one day though, one day I can't complain, my current 'stat collection is plenty awesome for my needs and is still the best I've heard to date. I now have what I consider four of the best phones on the planet. I haven't heard the O2 yest so I'm lucky to not miss them. Having listened to some of the best regarded dynamics I can safely say I think my 'stats are way better than any of them.
  15. Some really cool toys showing up lately. Quite astonishing given the small numbers here. I'd love to listen to some of the stuff you lot are getting. Not the fridge though, I hear mine quite enough.
  16. Ok, Not exactly a huge mod but it's made a huge change to how they sound and they sound ferkin' awesome. I imagine it's somewhere between the SR-Lambda and SR-Sigma and definately has many of the Sigma qualities I've read about with, seemingly, none of the drawbacks. Deeper well rounded bass, smoother highs and a very nice midsection. The soundstage now rivals the K1000 at the angle I normally listen at. Despite the extra distance from the ears there's very little drop in volume and they go really loud in a spectacularly full way. I lined the inside with felt to dampen reflections and used very strong, pliable mounting tape to fix the wedges in place. The seal is perfect and comfort is still great. The wood looks heavy is actually quit light and not noticeable when wearing them. I went for some Rock Maple as a nice light contrast to the black phones. I was having a play with the new wood tools anyway so decided I might as well mod the Lambdas. I'd been planning on doing this since I got them. I love these hobbies!
  17. You're a harsh mistress Reks
  18. Yeah, no two ways about it, girlfriends can really suck, until you want them to, then they suck even more! :'( Get a dog.
  19. But I wants to play with new toys...

Yah, I've tried Dvoraak a few times over the years but always ended up back with qwerty. It's a good idea in theory but my typing memory won't let go of the system I started with.
  23. Woodworking go faster things... Drill press Drill press safety planer Milling vice (mine's biggeer than this one) Spade bits, Forstner bits and a circle cutter plus 2 sizes of microplane rotary shapers. Fun fun fun!
  24. Indeed, RIP is pretty sweet for shaving off the excess crap on H-F
