I think we're all getting terms mixed up. Mids can be detailed and sucked out at the same time, sucked out just means they're not forward but recessed. Also, I find nothing "dynamic sounding" about the Lambda Pro, it doesn't have hard hitting bass, and does not have the most amount of bass by far. The 404LE and 404 quite obviously have more, to me, with the 404LE having the harder hitting bass. If anything, the 404LE is the one trying to sound like a dynamic, to me. And you're right, I don't get how an amp could make the O2 more forward and dynamic and then make the 404LE less forward.

So you're saying the Lambda Pro is more resolving? Doesn't that prove my point? And resolution and brightness are more or less two different things imo.
-
I didn't find the 404LE to be particularly forward. Never listened to them in meet conditions, and comparing to my other headphones, found the resolution to be pretty average. Not a big deal, resolution is nice but once I've heard a recording on a particularly resolving headphone and hear all the little niggles and such in the recording, it transfers to all my other headphones regardless of resolution (until I forget). And sometimes it's nice to relax and just enjoy the music.

If it hasn't been used in awhile, chances are it will need time to properly charge up. I even experienced this with my SR-Lambda which I hadn't used in over half a year and needed a day or two of plugging into bias to sound normal again. My Superex PEP-74 takes 30 seconds to a minute every time even after being run in (the trafo box is self-bias). Congrats on the Lambda Sig, it doesn't suck. Also, 404LE resolution = meh.

I'm quite used to having my ears 2 inches from the f holes so I guess it doesn't bug me as much. And using gut strings does make a difference, with a sweeter tone and low tension but worse carrying power and stability (not necessarily less bright). The soloists who don't have the mics so close of course still are brought out in the mix on CDs, as there's just no way a single violin can produce as much volume as an orchestra.

I've never done a pole dance with someone else before, my sugar daddy doesn't like to let anyone see my body but him.

So who is providing the strippers? And may I come over?

I fear we may soon have a bourbotinigate on our hands.

What sometimes surprises me is how ridiculous(ly good) Heifetz is at Brahms. And you know, how ridiculously good almost everything about his playing is. Not sure I have warmed up to Kremer's solo Bach quite yet. If I ever do.

Sounds like an STD symptom gone horribly wrong. I'll have to check that out. I'm going to guess she does better with Bach. Not a fan of her various other Russian violin concertos CD (Glazunov, Khachaturian, Prokofiev 1).

WANT to go. Probably shouldn't, though... Tuesday night, and it's right around finals... Congrats on getting your iPhone back boomana. You could return your new one and go back to your old one, as an option (unless your new one isn't new).

Yeah it could be that he actually believes it. But his wording definitely is in the hype category, and it just so happens that he wants to sell it, even though he seemingly prefers it to the O2MkI, O2Mk2, and HE60. Also, he's already sold one pair of 404LE which iirc was another pile of fail because I think he was trying to profit off it (still trying to sell at cost for this one). And he doesn't actively participate in any discussions on sound, or at least hasn't for awhile. Also the 404LE just isn't very good imo/e.

I like how in the video there's tons of other rabbits just chilling while it happens. I hope it's open, might actually be interested in buying something like that.

SR-X Mk3 owners represent. I still gots ma pro. If you ever want to borrow it for awhile, just PM me. Oh, and good deal on that 404LE, unlike with douchebag hypeface Dinan.
-
Pure fucking BS x2. This Dinan fellow seems like a real douchebag.
-
I guess you should've thought about that before you had unprotected listening. Do it like you did the first time but make sure not to have it fall off halfway through. Sorry, I couldn't resist.
-
This could take awhile. I probably won't finish until the end of the month. And yay for Buckethead. One weird dude.

I guess I'm coming from the opposite point of view. Couldn't stand anything with any of the "vocals" that sounded like someone was wringing a chicken's neck for the longest time. Also couldn't stand stuff with pretty much no harmonic content, which as you said, has no "color". The very interesting rhythmic content somewhat makes up for it; I love polyrhythms and syncopation, strange and constantly changing meters, etc. But yeah, now I'm starting to dig it. I think it's that I don't listen to metal that often compared to other genres (actually I don't listen to much of anything at all anymore but that's another story) so when I want to listen to metal, I want some motherfucking heavyass metal. Agreed about the not restraining self bit, and that's the point for me when listening to metal. I'll save the dark but more sinister restraintful moods for prog rock with metal tendencies (Porcupine Tree, Tool, et al) and I guess prog rock in general. And the definition of melody is two or more notes in succession.

I don't claim to understand my own tastes, especially for metal. But yeah, the Living Sepulchre vocals sound like something from an '80s rock band. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, just not what I'm expecting from metal. The vocals on Lovesongs of the Forsaken are either mixed way too far back or the singer is singing weakly and not with a 'real' tone, which is a big no-no for classically trained musicians. And has poor intonation. I agree that the typical metal screaming/growling doesn't really count as singing, though (if what's what you meant by "singing").
-
Pfft, they set their White House on fire indefinitely just to keep warm. Don't let anyone/thing tell you otherwise.
-
Not really that into that kind of metal singing, which I'm not sure is the proper label. Epic doom maybe? Was trying to find things similar to Meshuggah and found this... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I6tP6b_YI_4 Their older stuff with the previous singer is pretty good.

Is dat a bagpipe I hear? FFFFFUUUUUUUUUU That said, I dig (the rest of) it! Need moar of that.
-
The Princess of Kansas certainly has something to say about that. Perhaps used makes a difference with those.

Yep, gotta watch out when installing those directional pipes. Also, you have to make sure there's low turbulence in the water flow to make sure the water flows nicely in the optimal direction, for best taste.
