  1. ^^ That's the reason I got the ESP6. In theory it should sound decent for a closed electrostat. Still need new pads... It looks heavy but it's actually extremely light and hollow on the inside. It is a bit fiddly though.
  2. Think of sealed versus open baffle speakers, it's similar to that (but in reality there must be something behind the drivers to protect them so there is a certain amount of backwave reflection). Sell your DT48 and get something better, and do some research on how headphones and speakers work while you're at it. You just spouted a bunch of half truths and things that are just plain wrong.
  3. Congrats! And uh, yeah they weren't violin related. First one was due to wrestling, and second one was due to indoor ultimate frisbee (don't ask).
  4. I nearly spat out my drink.
  5. Maybe whichever pair Birgir listened to at CJ was already modified? The little bit of wire at the end soldered to the drivers seems really... high end...
  6. Ugh yeah, I've had that situation many times in my life. Had to take off several months each for fracturing my collarbone in one incident and fracturing my left wrist and spraining my right wrist in another. Then I stopped playing for about half a year right before college. And in between those major ones are a lot of smaller breaks. In fact I just took a ~3 week break due to finals and surprised it only took me a few days to get back how to play correctly, and as a bonus I am actually playing better than before. As I said, a lot of it is just mind over body and thinking about violin and how to play correctly without even touching one really helps me. The Chaconne could be a nice stepping stone piece to get you back into shape.
  7. Dipoles ftw. Gotta flip them HE60 drivers for better sound yo. Edit: Or better yet, face them exactly 90 degrees from the driver's ears.
  8. That's why you practice. Most of violin playing IME is more about mind over body than anything else by far, so don't allow yourself mental blocks. Just start slow and work your way up to speed. Er, I think the Heifetz arrangement is the only one, but I could be wrong. Have you played Kreisler Praeludium and Allegro or Vitali Chaconne? Good luck, I'm sure you'll pull through! All nighters are the worst though, I can only pull them like twice a year.
  9. The result is I ended up getting nothing. Realized I wasn't going to get a chance to even use it until last week (too busy) and then spent the money that would have gone towards an oscope on other stuff. The 1052E looks like a nice little unit though and if you get it I'd be interested in knowing how it is.
  10. I know absolutely nothing about film and thus have nothing to offer but just wanted to say no it doesn't always turn up washed out and also it is cool. Here's a pic of me: Facebook destroyed some of the goodness so I guess I should find the original print or scan, it's not supposed to look that grainy. And I realize it's over-exposed, blah blah blah.
  11. One more thing, after the Beriot you could try Tchaikovsky Valse Scherzo, it's a nice piece to develop both technique and "virtuosity." Also the Rachmaninov Vocalise (arr. Heifetz) to develop beauty of sound. How is your double stop/chord playing?
  12. Wow that site's got some crazy shit man. Like this breastfeeding one: LiveLeak.com - Woman Still Breast-Feeds Her 7-yr-old Wtf? WTF? WTF?? Oh and I came in here to post this:
  13. Bears. Beets. Battlestar Galactica. 'Bout tree fiddy. Fanny Wang.
  14. Yeah I think I did say that. Cool, any specifics as to why you like it more? I use Sartory rosin, which is fitting, and haven't really experimented after that. I don't like anything that's too gummy.
  15. Happy birthday to you two! My password has been changed to hunter3 just for today! Just kidding.
  16. Had a really great lesson yesterday after a fruitful week practicing. Great way to start off the new year. Good luck Jim and Jacob and other people.
  17. A man of fine taste, you are.
  18. Yeah that's what I figured but when I emailed Koss customer service they said they don't have it, so whoever emailed me back doesn't know what s/he's talking about. Maybe you can help with pad identification? Did the pads look like this? Or like this? Or something else? TIA.
