  1. That's super pimp shelly. When I first started teaching I wanted to convert all students to math majors. A few years later I'm content with hey you with the funny name. I don't hate math as much. Thanks. Hearing that is surprisingly pleasant. Nice of her to not waste the money on a pair of shoes. Nicer of you to promote kids her age to think critically. I toast you with a tall glass of lemonade.
  2. i do shoot in raw. i was following the camera ev reading so far but all my shots seem underexposed so started going by what i was seeing on the screen. better results. will try and perhaps over expose shots a tad and pull it down in lightroom and see if i can get any better results.
  3. wasnt being critical for the sake of being critical. asked so i could improve if i was doing something in poor practice. if it is camera limitation then so be it. however if i can be doing anything different to get sharper images then id like to learn.
  4. for some reason i cant get shots as sharp as the one jeff posted a long time ago of that tram in nyc with my nex 5. iirc he mentioned using the kit lens even. dont know if it was post processed though. at 1:1 viewing, i see a lot of grain/noise in the photos - even the ones taken during the day at 200iso with 1/4000 sec shutter speeds. i can slow down the shutter to say 1/320s and stop down the lens but even then i see that grain. given that the zeiss 35mm is one of the sharpest lenses out there, id like to know if its something that i am doing wrong or whether it is just the nex.
  5. Damn it. Might not have as much money saved up by then. Was looking at apts in the area and the shitty ones are $1600 a month. Boca raton is pretty expensive too but 1600 gets a reasonable apt on the intercoastal. Any suggestions? Don't know if living at uc is an option. I doubt it would be any cheaper though. Perhaps...
  6. A friend and myself are considering spending next summer in Berkeley, Ca working on mcat prep. The classes are held on the Berkeley campus for 12 weeks starting around may 20th. Could the locals or Cali residents offer any insights on the area, transportation ease, cost of living including rent and food etc? We have options of irvine, San Diego and a couple of other cities but berkeley seems to have the best teachers so I'm looking at that first. The cost of attendance is the same for all locations so I'd like to stick to Berkeley unless the cost of living is absurdly less in other cities. Gross estimates for 3 months would be very helpful in helping us plan how much to save over the next year. We wont really have much time outside of prep so nothing needs to be attributed to crazy outings. Once or twice perhaps but the emergency fund should take care of that. Thanks
  7. Sorry about the news al. she seems like a lovely person.
  8. Why is everyone continuing to feed him?
  9. dude how the hell do you keep dropping your gear?
  10. just got the zeiss 35mm lens in the mail. god damn its tiny. the stupid adapter wont be here until thursday/friday even though i ordered it 2 days before the lens.
  11. Anything come to mind for comparable image quality?
  12. Mom wants a p&s camera. Under 400. Is s95 the goto camera in that range?
  13. christ peter. amazing stuff. can you really see that many stars in the sky at that altitude? at sea level, i see maybe 3 stars on a clear night. is there some magic number for the exposure time or some other setting that lets you capture the sky that way?
  14. Zeiss 35mm f2.8 for mah nex 5.
  15. happy birthday sir

  21. Woohoo. Go Bryan
  22. Dude that's waaaaay too much work. My team in season 5 made me responsible for setting up our team for cevo. Team name, manager name, password, team password, scheduling password, roster password essentially anything I had to fill out was all "a" Needless to say I was never given the role of manager again. Just as well.
  23. I think it would be a rare occasion that all 4 family members are at home and everyone is on their laptops and phones at the same time. As such 5 might be ok. Since we have just 2 non apple laptops and one non iPhone I figured going with an apple router might provide ether integration. I have no brand loyalty (yet) but if a cheaper non apple router does the job (just as well) then I'd like to go for that.
  24. I remember biology definitions verbatim from 8th grade and can tell you which ion was where on the page in my Chemistry book and what the valency was and an innumerable number of useless things BUT I can't remember what day or date it is. Hell I can't even remember my poker hand for just a single round of betting. No joke. I've been wearing a watch for as long as I can remember and use it a lot any given day.
  25. So my router seems to be on it's way out. I have no trouble with wifi on phone or iPad at school or elsewhere but keep getting kicked off at home. Sometimes it just won't connect. Other times it says incorrect password to the correct password. Have no need for dual band routers. Would the airport express be able to run a wireless network with a dsl modem? 4 laptops. Couple of phones and 2 iPads. Tried the same current router with an older modem and the problem persists. Or just buy another run of the mill link sys and call it a day?
