I'm with Ari, there is very little point in "fixing" this amp. You'd likely invest far more than this is worth in fixing it and still be left with a turd with a presumably nicer transformer.
The first four weeks that Andrew went to daycare he came home with a black eye or head wound of some sort. So I'm with Dan, he'll never remember it and you shouldn't sweat it.
I woke up to half as much snow as we had when I went to bed. It pretty much rained all night making cleanup this morning a bit of a chore. And the driveway is covered in a layer of slush because the snow got so saturated over night. It's always a toss-up as to whether or not to blow the snow before the rain or after.
The forecast overnight here is for continued snow/wintery-mix so there's no point in clearing the driveway at this point. Might as well leave the snow there to soak up any rain/ice so that the driveway is that much less of a skating rink tomorrow morning. I expect that there will be a delayed opening for school as it isn't really supposed to wind down until 5/6am. We've gotten about 8" of pretty heavy, wet snow so far.
Good news Chris. I had a major meeting today get cancelled because of weather and I'm psyched. I was going to be covering for someone else and potentially asked about topics that I am only tangentially involved in all wrapped up in a politically charged atmosphere.
You might think about talking to the local aardvark about the SimpleSE that he has kicking around. It's very basic (from an aesthetic and function standpoint) but puches well above its weight.
Glad to hear that you're back in the saddle, V. I'm itching to get back out on the road but winter seems to have other plans. It was -6 at the house this morning and there's more snow in the forecast later in the week. Ugh.
Jeff, what's this about you giving up?
Honestly, why? It doens't seem like it's so much smaller as to make a huge difference and since you've already invested in the 800 setup the $$ doesn't seem to make much sense to me either. I'm also having a hard time imagining that image quality is a big problem on the 800.
Larry,
That sucks and sorry to hear that you're going through this again. We had a similar (but more minor) issue a few years ago where a pressure relief valve went bad on our boiler and started spewing hot water all over our storage room. We caught it within an hour or so of it starting (my best guess) but it still took days to clean up. Thankfully I had most everything on shelves off of the floor so we didn't lose too much.
I was going to film it but it was too dark and when I started I wasn't planning on doing the whole driveway. Shortly after I started it stopped snowing so I just kept going.
Ice storms are the reason I have a generator and transfer switch. The setup is sufficient to provide heat/hotwater, power to about half the house (most importantly the fridge/freezer) and cook in the microwave. I've only had to use it once in the last three years but it was nearly worth it from that instance alone and the peace of mind is hard to put a value on with two little kids.
If you don't like Newegg, like myself, you can get nearly the same deal through Amazon ($124.99 and Prime eligible) and support HC in the process. Amazon's price of $249 for the 480GB model is awfully tempting @ $259.
