I might also like to re-adopt the SimpleSE...
-
Good news Chris. I had a major meeting today get cancelled because of weather and I'm psyched. I was going to be covering for someone else and potentially asked about topics that I am only tangentially involved in all wrapped up in a politically charged atmosphere.
-
School cancelled and we're already in th 12" band in the updated forecast.
-
Here we go again.. 6-9" predicted tomorrow with high winds and the possibility of some ice thrown in for good measure.
-
He hasn't listed it for sale so a PM would be the way to go and I don't remember it running very hot.
-
You might think about talking to the local aardvark about the SimpleSE that he has kicking around. It's very basic (from an aesthetic and function standpoint) but puches well above its weight.

Glad to hear that you're back in the saddle, V. I'm itching to get back out on the road but winter seems to have other plans. It was -6 at the house this morning and there's more snow in the forecast later in the week. Ugh. Jeff, what's this about you giving up?
-
Peter, What would you recommend as a starting point for Seanan's work? I'm guessing Rosemarry and Rue. I'm currently reading this:

The Official Head-Case Photography Thread.

Honestly, why? It doens't seem like it's so much smaller as to make a huge difference and since you've already invested in the 800 setup the $$ doesn't seem to make much sense to me either. I'm also having a hard time imagining that image quality is a big problem on the 800. -
Just made some chocolate and coconut biscotti so at least the start of days should be good this week.

Happy Birthday, Jeff!

Larry, That sucks and sorry to hear that you're going through this again. We had a similar (but more minor) issue a few years ago where a pressure relief valve went bad on our boiler and started spewing hot water all over our storage room. We caught it within an hour or so of it starting (my best guess) but it still took days to clean up. Thankfully I had most everything on shelves off of the floor so we didn't lose too much.

SR-404LE - really "all that," over the SR-307 or ESP950's? $700 worth of it?

This and given the OP's nonsensical treatment of good advice in the past I'm hard pressed to find motivation to offer more. -
I was going to film it but it was too dark and when I started I wasn't planning on doing the whole driveway. Shortly after I started it stopped snowing so I just kept going.
-
A solid 10" here but not too heavy so clearing the driveway wasn't too bothersome. The forecast for the weekend is not looking good.

Ice storms are the reason I have a generator and transfer switch. The setup is sufficient to provide heat/hotwater, power to about half the house (most importantly the fridge/freezer) and cook in the microwave. I've only had to use it once in the last three years but it was nearly worth it from that instance alone and the peace of mind is hard to put a value on with two little kids.

If you don't like Newegg, like myself, you can get nearly the same deal through Amazon ($124.99 and Prime eligible) and support HC in the process. Amazon's price of $249 for the 480GB model is awfully tempting @ $259.

Hang in there, Dan. We haven't had a major ice storm here for a few years (knock on wood) but I remember what a pain in the ass they were. Lately it's been really heavy snow and wind. I noticed a few weeks back, when I took the Xmas tree way out back to put it on the burn pile, that we lost a 40' birch tree this winter. It must have come down during one of the major wind events that we had but was still surprising to see.

2" on the ground when I left the house around 7 and it's coming down pretty good. The forecast remains pretty much the same, ~1" an hour for the remainder of the day with the added bonus of 20-30mph winds.

Good luck Dusty, ice is decidedly worse than snow in most cases. And yes, they've cancelled both my wife's school and Lily's for tomorrow. I will, however, solder on and go to work.

Incoming ordinance - 8-12" due tomorrow morning starting just in time to make the morning commute nasty and lasting all day.

Very nice work as usual, Birgir. I really need to find a better home for my KGSS. I'm hopeful that they'll move me into an actual office and if so, it may become my work rig as absurd as that would be.

I actually got pretty proficient at assembly/disassembly with the 3-shelf unit that I used to take back and forth to meets. It wasn't fun but it did work. Lager units with more shelves become a huge pain the ass. I also wonder about the overall stability of taller models. But for the $$ they are really hard to beat.

I wrote something which might have caused more conversation and then decided I didn't care. Your second statement above, I admit, I find more than a little disturbing.
