Sorry if I came across as or dissagreeing that wasn't my intention. The system I was hearing was years ago and in a fairly poorly setup room. For all I know they have something crappy going on now and it wouldn't surprise me. As far as accurate = screechy for a lot of people that is true. The HD650's are laid back and so are many other phones that are supposedly accurate. I'm not saying artificially screechy but "accurate" usually ruins a lot of recordings (For some reason I can look past recording issues as long I know they are there). Flame away.

I'm sure we can work something out.

Well I just got confirmation from SPL USA today that they are going to send me a SPL Phonitor for me to do a review on Head-Case and the other site. Good stuff, all I need to do is give them a CC# as collateral. The only issue I see with this is the fact that the amp has a 9 ohm output impedance which it seems to me would cause some weird responses with low impedance phones (unless their impedance doesn't vary much). I probably won't get it for a couple weeks but hopefully I'll get it before Christmas.

a few concerns with my latest aquisition (sp extreme)
Dreadhead replied to crappyjones123's topic in Headphone Amplification
ding ding ding..... buy something halfway decent too. -
Well I haven't heard much BC stuff but it has a very rabid following. I had a neighbor growing up that had a pretty amazing BC setup. I remember thinking it looked like crap but sounded very good (I like accurate, which many call screechy). Wow their current DAC is pricey:http://www.bluecircle.com/index.php?menu_id=3159

cool! I wonder if it will be op amp mixed with discrete again. -
You infringer you!

I want people... you lawyers get all the fun.

I ordered a pair through E-Bay from earphone solutions and with coupon and cash-back got them for 40% off. My wife is giving me then for Christmas though so no tunes until the 25th (well maybe a 30 minute trial).

Sounds like you're one happy guy. When did you get the ATC 50's? I thought you had Gallos. Very nice setup.

Might interest the rich ones..
Dreadhead replied to ZephyrSapphire's topic in Home Source Components
Not that rich ones actually: Universal Audio 2192 | Sweetwater.com DSD is likely going to be useless for ever since you can't get a stream from anywhere and who gives a hoot about HDMI for 2 channel? If it was a multichannel DAC that would be a different story. -
That post is a bit troubling... Congrats on your new baby Al!

Al, I wish you and your unicorn all the luck in the world. May you have a long and prosperous relationship
-
Yeah I'd looked at the Korg and they don't appear to have digital outs at least on the portable ones.
-
Edirol has a 24/192 and others already have DSD or recorders on the market. I wonder if it will have digital out since at least in this case it's for recording your own content so there should be no issue with the copy protection.

Aristaeus came and went on HF.. lasted 20 minutes
Dreadhead replied to Luminette's topic in Headphone Amplification
EMI and RFI are different? I, my electromag courses (admittedly a decade ago) and wikipedia dissagree, photons are photons. Anyway the are talking up at 315 times the 1MHz you mention and it's not even effective. If we all have serious issues with those frequencies we better live far away from any FM radio (about 100 MHz) or AM .5-1.5 MHz. I still can not see it being of any use. Does look cool though. -

I'll be honest and say I don't know... 60hz? Mutliples of 44.1 up to maybe 200 kHz? On the other hand 315 MHz? Let me know when you can hear the effect of having a garage door opener broadcasting nearby (it appears that's a common fequency for them). As far as I know other than some pretty exotic digital stuff everything in audio is below the 1 MHz range for the oscillators. -

United States Patent: 5814761 expires in a couple years. lol, their EMI tests show (emitests) effectiveness at greater than 315 MHz Very important fequency for the audio field. -
NKOTB - TTVJ/Millett 307A Headphone Amp
Dreadhead replied to n_maher's topic in Headphone Amplification
In general you will not want to take the XLR outputs and sum them for the RCA unless you attenuate the signal as well since the balanced output on most gear is operating at more than 2x the voltage of the single ended stuff. I have never heard the argument that trafo coupled should be better than properly designed balanced gear and I'd need a lot more convincing. Edit: Wikipedia to the rescue: [ame=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Balanced_audio]Balanced audio - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia[/ame] "Fully balanced internal circuitry has been promoted as yielding 3dB better dynamic range." From that it appears that fully balanced amps do not need transformer coupling on the inputs to avoid ground loop issues. -

Dreadhead replied to n_maher's topic in Headphone Amplification
I would have to say no. The only reason I use my system fully balanced is for the headroom insurance it provides. To be honest with the SA5000s I think they sound the same SE as long as the amp has enough juice.
