There are Ti builders that do dual suspension but not sure any of them do 140+ rear travel. I'll take the extra weight from steel or Ti and not have to worry about getting a broken carbon frame repaired. Still undecided on what to do but I am leaning toward my original idea, Ti road bike. This would leave me with all kinds of options for a mtb. and would save money compared to custom Ti and then having to build it up piece by piece. Thanks to those who offered advice.

Probably because its lighter and the bike companies are selling carbon bikes so that is what the pros ride. I personally would not get a carbon mtb. I would not want to worry about breaking the frame during a crash. With steel and especially Ti that would not be a concern.

No need to say sorry, just saying why I made the comment about Firefly being pricey.

Firefly custom road frame is $4,000 v. $2550 from DeSalvo. At $4000 I would probably be looking at Calfee, Crumpton and Landshark.

Firefly's are beauties but pricey. Mike DeSalvo does the welding on many of the Speedvagen bikes.

I've trying to convince him to go Calfee or Crumpton instead of Colnago, etc.

If I went Ti road it would be a forever bike (forever is very relative when I am involved). I saw a couple Crumptons recently down here and I kind of like what I see. At $4,000 plus it would be a while before I made that move. Before I put my deposit down on my DeSalvo, I was thinking about a custom Landshark carbon frame. My thinking is if I go Ti mtb, I'm buying one more bike instead of two more bikes.

I'm kind of torn but I do have a very nice, comfortable Gunnar that I can ride until I can save up for a nice Crumpton or Calfee.

You know that will never happen.

That's a bummer raffy. You are not getting out of Sebring that easy. I've been practicing my sprint finishes.

Spoke to Mike DeSalvo who despite having received the tubes for my road bike will build me a Ti hard tail 650b frame if I prefer. I have about a week to decide.

I have already paid for my DeSalvo Ti frame so if I go Ti it will be Desalvo.

Nate, thanks for the advice. I will be shopping around. Deepak, I've seen pics on DeSalvo's website of dual suspension bikes he's made. I believe he uses a dual suspension design from another manufacturer. I would still consider a hard tail despite everyone telling me you have to go dual. I used to ride here, in NC, in CO, in CA and other places all on ht's and had a blast. Needless to say, I'm all over the place on this.

Thanks Deepak. I need to hear this stuff. I'm likely not buying until the end of the year so I probably should spend some time looking at LBS's to see what is available. I am all over the place with this stuff and need to focus. I'm still waiting to hear from DeSalvo about possibly switching the bike I have on order to either a Ti hard tail or suspension (650).

That should look good on the bike Chris. The turn around on your bike has been blazing fast. I hope you have it for the T'giving weekend.

I dig Huffy's. I didn't buy it yet. If I do it will be at the end of the year. It looks pretty well decked up for the money but I will wait to hear what others have to say.
