  1. You probably have, but weren't aware of it. I was for some time using a Sony player as a transport, whose digital output happened to end up failing and needing fixing. The first thing I noticed, a few hours before it failed and digital out muted, was a harsher sound that was only noticeable to me in two main areas, the voices quality and as though certain details were enhanced, things like the bowing on a double bass which became too noticeable. Those are sounds that once I've learned to spot, would make evident the type of connection I'm using, then knowing if I'm using a toslink or a coaxial connection. Maybe that difference in sound is not just because of jitter, however it's one of the few measurable parameters differentiating them.
  2. I suppose you're addressing that to Padam, I not even know where to bid for them
  3. Cooking. I'm always amazed for how a meal can change just by adding a few spices or getting the preparation procedure right.
  4. That Alpha is one of the very few DACs currently made which raises my interest. If you ever manage to listen to it...
  5. Mmm at that price I wouldn't mind getting a pair, just for collection sake

    No extremely horny? Surprising
  7. Nice Justin. Would you post some impressions? I'm very interested in knowing how it performs in the CD transport role.

    TKD pot

I have a TKD stepped attenuator mounted in my tube integrated. For its size no other stepped would fit. A very good upgrade from Alps. I don't know how their potentiometers are, but if it has the same quality, I'd keep it for the Dyna
  9. Happy Bday
  10. Thanks Pars. I've checked those in the spreadsheet and seem to be CR1, CR2, CR3 and CR4 so two of each per board are needed. How many of them would you suggest to get for spares, a whole set for each board? That's some dough.
  11. Hi Pars, Would you be so kind to specify which diodes should we get for spares? I don't see them in the speadsheet, so my guess is that the Power module just comes with the units needed.
  12. I will handle payment for all 8 S22 kits in a single order, I'm arranging things with the other Spanish Gang mates. I will ask PICaudio about the power modules, I don't know if he wants to use anything special. Also comment him about the diodes. When all this is sorted out I'll PM you Icarium, so we can arrange payment to Jeff.
  13. As I said in the PM I sent, I'm hesitant about those "Power entry modules" which aren't included and I wonder if they're needed for anything, maybe just making connections easier or whatever. Otherwise I'd be ready to order payment, just needing Paypal address confirmation.

  15. Yep that's the detailed explanation I was given, but not being a technical person I couldn't remember it. Thanks for clarifying
  16. As far as I know, for what an amp builder tried to explain to me, if you don't load the secondary of a transformer coupled tube amp, the tube output sees the primary as a load with just the impedance of the wire in the primary, so it's quite close to a short. The tube is asked to delivery way more current than it's designed to and will die soon. So for a short while you can run an OTC tube amp without a load plugged, but it's not a good idea doing so for more than a few minutes, unless you want to burn out your tubes prematurely. For an hybrid amp, if the output devices are the transistors, not having a load plugged shouldn't be a problem. The transistors are still a load that the tubes would "see" despite you don't connect anything to the output.

  19. Happy Birthday Dmitri, have a really great one
  20. I know, I tried to mean it were "cold enough" to be in a safe working range I wonder if someone here has tried already the Dynafet using S22 PS and if it really needed case heat sinking or whether it run smooth with onboard heat sinks. If the big on board heat sinks we're planning to use aren't enough we'll be in trouble.
  21. Thanks, I thought so, but since previously it was stated as a very bad idea, I just wanted to know why Now we just need to try how demanding are 2 Dynafet boards for one S22 and see if the big heat sinks that will come in the kit are enough to keep it cold.
  22. LOL Well, the album with that track is 1h 14' long, which is too long for one LP, so I wonder if they just skipped that "song" or made it shorter to fit into a vinyl LP capacity.
  23. Yep, hence my recommendation. Action alone doesn't necessarily mean you need a lot of force to press the strings, and force is relative to own strength. Getting something you feel comfortable playing is an important factor to keep practicing and getting some quick encouraging results.
  24. So then, what's the problem in extending the sinking area to the case, by letting the heat sinks to touch the box?
  25. How the hell did they fit #15 track into the vinyl?. I'm still wondering about the meaning of those 30+ minutes of "summer night" noises to close the disc
