  2. You may also wish to try kuboTEN a very reliable service to purchase goods directly from Japan. I've recently bought replacement earpads for my CD3000 and R10. Flawless transaction. BTW, the pads for CD3000 are the same than for CD1000.
  3. Happy New Year. Stay cool and safe my friends
  4. Really? Fuck you HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!
  5. If you like a sound tending to "mechanical" it's a great arm for that, but if your preferences are more of an "organic" sound, then I'd try to spot some vintage 3009 S2 NOT improved.
  6. hehehe, when you made your comment I thought you were right, but then I tried to imagine the picture of the driver working fed by a balanced signal, and I realized that what it was doing is actually converting the balanced signal in SE motion, so the common mode noise is probably rejected. I think it's very difficult to make valid conclusions from those measurements. You could be also measuring the noise difference from balanced to SE into the own amplifier or even the source if they're using SE or balanced outputs from the generator. Your take about the noise floor being lower for having a doubled voltage signal seems quite valid as far as the noise voltage doesn't get doubled too. If it's common mode noise, I'd expect it to be lower nonetheless. How is output impedance on the amp affected by using SE or balanced outs? My guess is that it's higher, so you'd be lowering the damping factor, which could have audible and measurable effects. Funnily enough on our measurements on the HD600 we didn't notice any change on impulse response nor in the bass response.
  7. Happy B-day Jacob. Nice to see the kids growing

Nice video with nice music: [url=
  9. Mmmm trying to imagine the picture of one leg pushing at the driver while the other is pulling and having a noise spike with the same polarity on both legs, my take is that it's cancelling itself. Wouldn't it?
  10. Yep, balanced operation is used mainly to reduce noise, so no surprises here.
  11. Thanks mate, looks nice, but a bit expensive. I'll investigate it.
  12. Very true, thanks for the reminder, I've seen some of their Lumix small cameras displaying the Leica logo... I'll check them, they might have a model which is the size and versatility of the M8. I love adjusting the camera the old style, without having to run through uncountable menus and submenus. Just choose the ISO then combine speed and diaphragm by rotating two wheels to get the desired depth of field or quickness for moving objects, and decide if you want some over or underexposure. Clean, clear and fast.
  13. I know I know, photography is an expensive and dangerous hobby. Fortunately it didn't catch me deeply enough. I just got a Vivitar zoom and a wide angle for the Pentax, and kept the original lens of the Nikon, which maybe could serve me well if I get a Nikon DSLR. I liked the Pentax more than the Nikon, but I needed it to be compatible with the endoscopy gear in the hospital Now we're not using it anymore, all is digitally recorded now. Thanks for the links. I used to check DCR and following their recommendations I got the Canon Ixus (it had other model name in the US). It's an almost 3 years old model, just 5Mp but serves me quite well. I love the portability thing. To be honest I've become too lazy to go carrying a SLR body and several lenses on my trips, but somehow I miss taking good pictures as I used to do when the Pentax was my main camera -though I still keep it-. That's why I think that I could use a DSLR which is small and light enough. I think the D700 and the EOS 5D are bigger than I'd be happy using on a regular basis, but I'd need to try them in my hands.
  14. thxs mates, the review is very clarifying. I didn't expect such performance from a Leica Maybe some of those problems have been amended in the 8.2 iteration, but I wouldn't be risking such big bucks to discover they haven't. I'll investigate some small body Pentax or Canon if any.
  15. I'm a moderate photography fan. I've had a couple of good reflex cameras for 35mm film, but since digital took over film, my only digital camera is a Canon Ixus 50 which makes OK pics. I've been considering to get a decent or maybe more than that digital camera, but there are so many options... All I know is that I'd like to avoid huge cameras (my favorite one was my Pentax A1) and now with digital LCDs maybe a reflex isn't that necessary. I started to look at some options and then the Leica M8.2 came out as a compact, versatile and probably great quality one, which would allow me to swap objectives. The problem is the price. At about USD6000 just the body and USD1300 a 50mm lens, looks kind of very excessive. So, do you think is there anything in that camera justifying that price? Are there other options which for size, versatility and quality can come close at a way more affordable price point?
  16. I'd look for some of those small leather (or suede) cushions which use at the jewelry and watch shops to display the bracelets and wrist watches closed around. You can have one or two of those sewn to the headband.
  17. The SB is an "almost vintage" Platinum, one of those with a separate 5 1/4" module sporting headphone 1/4" jack output, mic input... it's quite decent and for the limitations in the room and speakers placement, I can't expect much better sound, I mean nothing justifying burning more than a couple hundred bucks in an external DAC. On the other hand for an unknown to me reason, I still feel some interest for NOS DACs. Probably for not liking any of the upsampling DACs I've tried no matter how expensive they are and for some favorable comments from a mate who had for some time an Ack Dack but ended up selling it for the PITA batteries. I think I might like their sound, but I wouldn't like to spend as much as a Scott Nixon costs, specially considering I'd need to get myself a transformer or getting the PS... We'll see, it's just curiosity for NOS DACs sound.

  19. I've spent most of the day with a couple of friends sharing this weird passion for music and audio of us. Wife joined us to eat at a japanese restaurant, then she went downtown for a walk and left us on our own to play with the system. We've listened to some vinyl, also some FM radio, a wonderful live performance by Hilary Hahn of the Paganini 1st violin concerto and also an arrangement of the Goldberg variations for string trio... That TU-X1 tuner is my best source, no doubts. Then we've changed to try some phones... Those CD3000 when paired with a good source and a good amp can sound really well. They were a terrific value for their price. I knew it, but having other people confirming it is kind of reassuring. None of them understands how the hell I'm so interested on headphones having a decent speakers system. I feel deeply misunderstood hahahaha
  20. Thanks for the reply. I asked about it more for sake of curiosity and perhaps listening myself to a "decent" (if that thing is at least decent) NOS dac, than for being myself looking for an upgrade from my current source. If that thing were somewhat interesting, I could use it on my secondary computer based rig. It would probably be a lateral move, maybe with some pros, over the SB soundcard. Who knows, the price is very tempting nonetheless.
