I can agree that Dreadhead's measurements may not be kosher and his measurements system is "clearly improvable", however, as far as he had measured a few phones and we could take his results under the scope of comparison terms to other well known phones, having cans measured won't harm. IMO if he posted his graphs of the R10 and we could compare them to his measurements of HD6xx, K701 and other popular phones, it'd be interesting to me so far.
  2. I guess it was in Bilbao, I can't recall any Spanish city named Balboa... Interesting recording though

I think the R10 measure far from flat, but for sure not in the same crappy way that those Phart-on do.
  4. LOL I'd never take that hassle just to be able to charge a few bucks more. Were I to sell them, I'd leave them "as is". However I could investigate the "letraset" thing I commented you in the other thread.
  5. That's why ask it, what I read was that it came in a case looking as Sony SA-5000's but I have no idea how's that.
  6. Santana - Santana [1969-2008 Mofi reissue] The disc is a loan from a friend. I've been listening to it with different phones. Amazing how it sounded almost dark and uninvolving on the HP-2 (still puzzling my mind why, really, not kidding) and truly amazing on the bass-lite R10.
  7. BTW has anybody seen pics of the box those things come inside? Is it a case or just a fancy box?
  8. I completely agree. They should have released and flooded the market with Edition 8s weeks ago in order to compete with Sennheiser. I'm afraid they are going to convert the limited Edition 8 into the Very very limited edition 8 Sennheiser has always been a very serious company offering great quality worth every penny you spend. Maybe their IEMs are the exception, those IE8 and IE7 seem to be a fail whatsoever. But their big phones are great, just look at the PX100, HD600... They've been setting the standard for years, something that other companies never got to but for perhaps a few models. The K1000, ESP950 or DT48 (a standard for hearing and psychoacoustic studies for years) come to mind. And then there is the Stax, the PS-1 and the R10 hahahaha
  9. I bet Sennheiser has stocked more than 200 units before the launch. Maybe more than 500. I wouldn't be surprised if they managed to sell 1500 units in the first year, the amount Ultrasone is struggling to sell of the Ed9 in the three or four years passed since they released it.
  10. x2 If supraural is no option, then GS-1000. Looks like differentiating those sounds requires "enhanced highs" which these would provide in spades. Also Super.fi 5 have a huge peak in the mid treble which would help on that.
  11. Maybe we're missing the true meaning of "perfect" hahaha;D
  12. Have a great one mate Enjoy this tune.
  13. I can see that more an advantage than a fault. Not having to stick to "boutique" mega expensive and ultra powerful dedicated amps is a good thing. Had the HD800 the transient response and low distortion of electrostats, I can see them beating dynamically most electrostats anytime.
  14. It's snowing in Madrid for more than two hours and still going strong. First and only snowing act in almost two years. There's about 1 foot of snow on the sidewalks and traffic is getting mad. This city isn't ready for such things Thanks God I'm enjoying a few holidays, so it won't fuck me up that much.
  15. OK, if you change your mind, just let me know. Now that I think about it, I'd better take those pics before the lettering gets away from them
  16. Maybe just amps in my case. Still not as funny as trying cans and finding their flaws. I hope they're not as good as they say. Maybe they're so perfect that music is completely soul-less or whatever hahaha . In any case looks like Sennheiser is going to kick some asses in this industry with those phones, no matter how good actually they are.
  17. If those HD800 sound as good as Tyll is raving about them, this hobby is going to get very boring. Once we have a perfect phone, what's left to try?
  18. If the phones are made and have the QC in Germany I bet measurements will be within 0.5dB or less for every single headphone. I guess it's just to show every single unit passes the QC. It also makes the thing more "personal", which IMO is a good marketing strategy. I have a little experience with ring radiator tweeters. They need some burn-in to get more or less right... if you like their signature, which is not my case. I hope the HD800's driver sounds better.
  19. The black paint would be just if the L letter is missing or the circle around it in the front side of the holder. You'd need it also for the JGL logo in the center, but you said it's OK. It says "● JOSEPH GRADO SIGNATURE PRODUCTS ● HP 1000" If you really want the pics I can take them for you, drop me a PM.
  20. Do you need a High res pic of the HP-2's lettering? You'll need black paint too
  21. Of course, otherwise they not even would sell all the HD800 that have already produced to attend the initial demand.
  22. If it sounds really good I'm sure they'll do, otherwise all what I guess they spent in R&D, I don't think is profitable enough if just implemented into 1000 euros cans. This kind of product doesn't reach really major sales figures IMO.
  23. It depends on whether they release a 680 -or any other number- using the same driver into a more Sennheiser classic frame, selling at about USD600-800, or not. My take is Sennheiser will try to have a statement product competing with Stax top tier electrostats, GS-1000, and Ultrasone Ed9, then a 2nd tier to fight D7000, DX1000, RS-1, etc which could be a next to release product based on the top of the line technology (like many speaker makers do), and keeping their popular lines, perhaps getting rid of the HD600 or 650 depending on which one is selling worse or generating less profit.
  24. I've been thinking that there was also a strong rumor that some HD680 were going to be released. Someone even posted a link to Sennheiser USA site where there was a blank page ready to hold 680s. I wonder, were that true, if in a few months Sennheiser will be releasing this new ring radiator driver into a more classic frame a la HD6xx for a more affordable price. Maybe they'll just wait to have everyone on the planet raving about the new driver and its wonderful sound, and after a few hundred units are sold, then releasing the new technology for the masses. Anyone betting?
