Agreed, In a moving car it's easier to forgive the mastering errors, loss of detail, noise floor, and bit rate issues. Somehow I've made it 4 years with the stock stereo in my Subaru, which is halfway decent if I turn up the treble over flat. But I'm still one of those people who listens to the same music via car stereo that I listen to in my headphone and speaker rig at home, at least when the kids are not with me. When they are with me, then I get to listen to their brick-walled crappy low bit rate alternative, punk, hip hop and pop. And sometimes I still find a gem in the music they like, while they find something in my library that they enjoy in return - without dealing with the technicalities and only enjoying the rhythm & groove of the song.

The Joan Baez song is possibly the only one worth using to try out a new stereo (maybe also He Mele No Lilo" by Mark Keali'i Ho'omalu from Lilo and Stitch). But the iTunes 256K version sounds like poop during the 30 second demo. I have the CD and it's actually a decent recording, but they're trying to sell the 10 song playlist on iTunes and I think it's a rip off. I'm just curious what you guys recommend to others as test songs for a new system. I like to use the following as test music, not just for car stereo but headphones and home stereo. It's just a small portion of what I use and I can't pick just 10 songs. Most of it is Jazz Vocals and Folk Acoustic or Electronic. I have 8,621 songs on my Macbook and twice that on my iMac, so I'll spare you a list of everything. I like the LCD-2 more than the T1, but you should find a headphone meet to give the T1 a try and decide for yourself. For tubes, I think the ZDT and Balancing Act are a good option. I'm pretty happy with my ZDT.

Well, I have one of these Akai portable DVD, but the coax S/PDIF output only seems to output with DVD and DVD-A. I've been meaning to investigate more to see if I can activate it with a music CD. Akai Pdvd 170 pdvd170 - Akai portable 7" dvd Player code free multiregion 110-220 volts pal ntsc I saw the Shanling CD player was mentioned, and I've heard good things about it. You could also try to pick up a used discontinued Sony portable CD with optical, like the D-EJ2000, D-NE20, or D-E999 like I did. I'm not convinced these are as good as my full size CD5001 as an optical transport. Maybe someone here can comment on the jitter levels with these PCDP? [i notice you mentioned cheap as a one criteria - this wont qualify at cheap, but the Nuforce CDP-8 is only about 1-2" wider than my Woo WA6, and about 2" tall and fits nicely under the WA6. But it's probably about 14" deep. It's RCA output beats my Apogee mini-DAC for refinement and soundstage, and it has RCA and BNC coax SPDIF out, but no optical. It also works great as a transport to my PWD, and it uses an upgraded constant speed optical drive with buffered output and jitter reduction (like the digital lens in the PWT but for hundreds less cost)]

We've been fortunate and most of our family members who developed cancer have had successful cures, with good lives post treatment! (my brother, my grandfather, my wife's mom). My uncle however spent a few painful months dying of prostate cancer, and I spent several months in my pediatric residency working with children with cancer and leukemia at Texas Children's Hospital. It was heartbreaking most of the time. So I got in on this raffle on the first day it started to help out, even though I'm sure Collin will win.

Is it possible to add the option for a daily digest notification of subscribed threads, instead of an individual email for each and every subscribed thread? I recently changed my settings from "Immediate" notification to "Daily" notification, and now I get sent 15-20 emails at 10:02PM each night, instead of spread out throughout the day. I did this to reduce the number of emails I get, not just to change the time that they arrive. I looked through the settings and didn't see a daily digest option. Thanks!

Well, it as great for auto-crossing/racing, but not so much fun on the street with all the road noise and bumpy ride. I've been driving Subaru cars since 2000, when I put an aftermarket turbo kit on an Impreza RS (before WRX came out I already had 240hp). Still have a 2005 Impreza RS which almost handles like my 2004 STI but with half the power. I'd really like an Audi S4 but can't afford one.

Radio Shack is unloading some 32gb 3rd Gen Touch for only $180 if they have any left. Our local one still does. As for DAC, how about a uDAC-2 or Pico DAC-only, which both have convenient RCA outputs?

I love fast cars. I had to sell my STI in 2006, but now my wife might finally let me buy another one in 6 months when the lease on her car is up. Here with snowy winters I have to stick with something practical, and I can't afford an S4.

Thanks! "Mail 4.3" was set as the default, which was the right one. Instead of changing it to AOL or something else just now, I chose "select" and went to the apps folder and selected Mail again. It still shows Mail 4.3 as the default, but now Safari can properly open mail to email links and pages. i didn't realize that simply changing it back to itself could make it start working.

Well, I just noticed a new email problem, which is strange because I did a clean install of OSX a couple of months ago, and migrated my old apps and data using the installer. Email works fine, but Safari can't find it. [EDIT - just noticed the alert is semi-transparent and you can see that I was looking at a post by "The Monkey" when I caught that snapshot yesterday]
