Noise canceling headphones for portable DVD player

Most of my IEM (universal or custom) are better than the ANC7, and they isolate outside noise much better. I would probably even enjoy a budget Brainwavz M2 or M3, or Nuforce NE-700X more, for half the cost. However, when I would fly with my family I could not hear when my wife or children were trying to get my attention if I had my IEM inserted, while the ANC7 don't isolate as much so I am more aware of my surroundings and if someone was trying to get my attention. I first bought them for our trip to Hawaii Dec 2008, and it was nice having them for that and other trips like Canjam LA 2009. The ANC7 do a good job of removing the drone of plane engines or road noise without totally isolating you from things around you that you might want to be aware of. I use them maybe 4-5x a year for when we go on trips and want to cut road noise. I haven't listened to them in several months, so I don't feel like it's a good idea to do more detailed impressions of the ANC7 right now. The Sennheiser HD25-1 II were a little better if I recall correctly, and they do isolate well but they don't cancel droning noise. So I gave the HD25-1 II to my son and kept the ANC7 for myself. If sound quality is more important those might be a better choice, or some IEM. Custom IEM seem to isolate much better on an airplane than universals in my experience, but universals have worked well for me in a car. I remember once flying with IM716 and an iPod Touch with no amp, and I could barely hear the music over the plane engines. -
And my son thanks you for that final act of sacrifice...

I have a pair of the ATH-ANC7 and they would be my recommendation for this situation as well. They're not an "audiophile" kind of phone, but they do a decent job and are more balanced than the Bose QC and QC2 I used to own. -
I believe the board was installed into the case by the previous owner, not by Mjolnir Audio. We shall see...

I read somewhere that component video cables were supposed to be 75 ohm for best performance. True or not?

One of these days I should do something with the spare SR-Sigma drivers and cable that I have...

Well, I promised Blesseingx we will buy his LNS when the ear pads he ordered come in, and I sold my son's pair of SR-Lambda to pay for it. My son Ben is infatuated with the WEE that he won at RMAF, and was willing to part with the SR-Lambda for a pro-bias pair. I'd always read that the LNS was better than the Lambda Sig. I'll PM blessingx a few questions about the LNS vs LS. My son liked my old Lambda Sig, but I thought it was a little bright or etched, so I thought we might try something else this time. Ben has my old HD600 and his own HF-2 that he also loves, so I'm guessing that he'll really like the LNS too. He did prefer the SR-Lambda to his dynamic phones, but enjoys them all. The WEE that my son won in the raffle at RMAF is the pre-rpoduction that meets the final specs but without some of the silk screening, and not the lesser performing prototype version. To get normal bias Jack Wu would have had to start fresh because the raffle unit was already built, and I thought it would have been rude to ask him to change the bias. Since this is the first pre-production unit, I may have to open it to see if the board has epoxy or not. I still have a spare set of luvdunhill teflon jacks, and maybe it's worth having them added and the bias modified...

I'm sitting here listening to my normal bias SR-Lambda right now, and I still can't believe how freaking good these are for a vintage phone. I don't think I could ever part with these, which I preferred to my Grado RS-1. I recently sold my son's SR-Lambda in order to buy him a LNS for his pro bias Woo WEE, and I'm thinking about a pro bias Lambda for myself which I need like a hole in the head. Won't have the LNS for a few weeks, but I'm looking forward to trying them out. I used to own the SR-404LE, which I thought were a little dark sounding for a Lambda model. The SR-404LE sounded kinda like a faster and more detailed/spacious version of the HD600, so not bad at all, but also not very energetic or exciting sounding. On the other hand, my old Lambda Signature had too much of that "etch" or hint of brightness to the sound. I've always felt the normal bias Lambda were just right, and they stood up well to the 404LE.

I listened to the PS-1000 at the Moon Audio table at RMAF 2010, and out of the Cary "300 SEI something" amp they sounded really good. I could live with a pair, even though they are colored in a fun way. I compared them to the LCD-2 and on the same Cary amp the PS-1000 sounded better, while the LCD-2 seemed a little duller and less dynamic from that amp. It turned out the PS-1000 and Cary amp is Drew's personal rig from home.

Re: cost of bulbs - My Sony XBR 42" RPTV bulb is going on 5 years and for a while 6 months ago it wouldn't start up on the first try, but for the past 4-5 months it's been okay and just slow to hit full brightness. My 4 year old 60" Panasonic RPTV Warns me it's time to change the bulb (has an hour timer), but it still works fine. A $100-140 bulb will get me several more years from these TVs. Back then these TVs were 4x the cost of this new one, so for the money you still get a lot of TV now (Especially if you need 60").

I already considered those options or 64Gb Touch, but couldn't post it after 15 words.

I tried streaming video playlists to 1G ATV but can't find them on ATV.

I'm out of town for thanksgiving, so unable to test until Saturday. Sorry.

No, I can use what I have the way I want. It's the 2nd Gen ATV I'm trying to decide about, which I don't have yet. Well, actually I do want the airplay and netflix that Apple won't add to my 1st gen ATV through an update, but not all the headaches that go with not being able to sync only the content that I want viewable on that ATV.
 -
Because I don't have the 2nd Gen ATV to try it out yet. I'll buy one on black Friday.
 -
Not yet, I'm still using two 160Gb 1st Gen ATV. But I'm looking at getting a 2nd Gen in addition to those (three total for master bedroom, family room, home theater) - my other option was to find a 3rd 160Gb 1st Gen ATV. I believe I'll just have to get one and try it, and return it if I don't like it. I could always use VNC on my iPad to remote control my iMac iTunes app, and play to the ATV via airplay. Thanks, I do appreciate all the suggestions. I have been unchecking a small percentage of our files so that they don't sync to any of the iPods and iPad when they get caught in a playlist. If I uncheck a huge number of files so they don't sync to the ATV, then it means even more wont go to the iPad or iPods. But I suppose I could turn syncing of unchecked files to iPad and iPod back on, and just redo several of our music playlists so that those files don't appear in the playlists themselves. Then when the playlists sync the files will still not be included. Usually for every album we buy or rip I make a smart playlist for it, and I could just add more criteria to the playlist to exclude certain files instead of unchecking them. That way whether they are unchecked or not would only matter for the ATV. Unfortunately having 18,000 files in the 823 Gb itunes library makes this more time consuming. (My macbook pro has 9,500 files taking up 208 Gb).

A few people have reported that their USB DAC/amp that worked before with the camera connection kit have now stopped working with 4.2, with the iPad telling them that they draw too much power. One person has the Nuforce uDAC, and another the iBasso D12. They claim they worked before and now they don't. On head-fi I posted a detailed report of 8 USB DAC/amps that work with iPad 3.2, and the uDAC and D10 were among those that work now. I am now waiting and watching to see if Apple killed this for all USB DACs or just some of them. I did save my SHSH blobs with tiny umbrella when I jailbroke it, and I suppose I could go to 4.2 and test it out, and return to 3.2.1 if I don't like it. But, I have the iPad working exactly the way I want it, and I don't want to screw it up or have to re-install everything and re-jailbreak it.

Thanks, I've thought about a separate Mac, but likely wont do that. I also like iTunes to keep the content organized, so iTunes will move things around and wreck that hierarchy of iTunesRoot and AppleTVRoot. Plus the iMac is an older core 2 duo that only supports 3Gb RAM, and with two users logged in all the time we can't leave a VM running. So that makes the software solution less viable as well. There is another software solution that might work. I could possibly launch iTunes under my wife's log-in and open a separate library database, and set it's preferences to NOT move the original files that are added to iTunes. The media files would stay in their original location in "Users > Shared > iTunes" when I drag them onto the new iTunes library window. I'd then try to share my wife's limited library with the 2nd Gen ATV, while I still have iTunes open in my account and sharing everything with my Macbook (and syncing iPods and older ATV). I don't know if the 2nd Gen ATV would like having both users logged into iTunes with home-sharing turned on, but it would be worth a try. I use a similar method (but not identical) when I want to use my Macbook at a meet without people having access to my personal data, or being able to delete songs and playlists from within iTunes. I keep all the music and video files in the users > shared folder so they are available to more than just my account, but I set privileges for the folder so only administrators and I can modify the contents. For everyone else the media files are "read only". I load iTunes under my name and share only my lossless music playlist, then I switch to a generic user with few privileges and launch iTunes to open the shared playlist. Then everyone can play the shared playlist, but there are no actual files in the user's library to accidentally delete. Basically, I know that two users on the same mac can be logged into iTunes at the same time, as long as they have different library databases. It doesn't matter if they use the same media files. This might be the trick. Thanks!

No. I want to be able to choose only 20-30 of the 800 movies to sync to the iPad, but NOT have to first go see if they are checked off or not every time I want to sync. I don't want to find out that they have been unchecked and not sync'd when I go to watch one. When I buy the kids a deluxe LP on iTunes with a large music video included, we sometimes uncheck the video so it doesn't sync to their iPhone and take up space. This frustrates them if I forget to re-check the box after their phone is sync'd, because then when the ATV syncs they don't get the video there where they want it. Unchecking items so they do not sync is a PITA.
 -
Well, then I can't sync that stuff to my iPhone/iPad until I recheck it. I only want to have our favorite movies/shows/music show up on ATV, not everything. But unchecking 600 movies out of 800, just so only the top 200 show up on Apple TV is a bit too much work. Can I tell iTunes to only share those playlists with ATV, or is everything still available? And to be sure, you're saying that I can make a playlist of my favorite 100-200 movies, and then find the movie and play it from the the playlist. I've only used playlists for music before.
