  1. I have a very similar set, and have delightedly used it for going on 6 years. Protect that bottom left pan, man. My wife forgot she was steaming some green beans in it one time and completely ruined it. I've had a devil of a time finding a pan so versatile again. They'll treat you well.
  2. Man, for KX-R they should be at your house. You shouldn't be boxing it up and swinging 'round the shop to have it looked at. This is ridiculous, Al.
  3. Oh, Al, what a shame. I've no doubt this will be made right. Also, it's weird to relive the thread where you got hazed into HC.
  4. New LCD soundsystem. Just as good, if not better than, the previous 2. And Sound Of Silver is one of my all time favorites. I was sad to hear that James is hanging up his LCD hat after this one.
  5. THAT is how you structure a first post, sir. Also, holy crap do I ever want an M-22 now. I'll take 30 Class A watts over 150 AB watts any day. No K Horns here, but plenty of horns nonetheless. I effing love that amp, Gene -- completely beautiful.
  6. I bought it, and might well prefer the LNS as well. Nonetheless, I dearly love your old NB. And deepak, if you see good normal bias sets come up for around $200, let us all know.

Holy hell, srsly. Gonna be fun plowing trough season 4 of BSG now
  8. Amen to that.
  9. It's good. So is the dynalo. So is the M^3. I don't think there's a "best", necessarily, so get one of the three and use it until you get the other two (as you and I know you eventually will).
  10. That's true, but plenty of other things could have broken it as well. With something so irreplaceable as a NB lambda, I'd prefer to know rather than guess, especially for $160.
  11. Those are a bit of a mess. The mylar alone is enough to scare me off, but one has to ask oneself -- how did the original Arc assembly get busted? These things are old, and if they were mistreated at any time in the past, you want to know how much and by whom. It's not like there are warehouses full of spare parts for old Staxen - even owners of brand new sets have a hell of a time getting Stax to ship them replacement anythings. All that adds up to a big stay away. I think a decent pair in much better condition would demand more cash, but that's largely because I know my pair is worth much more than any other $160 phone on the planet.
  12. Look at you, fitting right in.
  13. Ah, well, by all means then.
  14. Be warned, it's not cheap.
  15. ^ make sure the pres. isn't there, or it'll be a shitshow.
  16. two birds with one stone
  17. Cranberry/Wild Boar brats wrapped in homemade pretzels with a side of roasted corn from my friend's garden. Holy fuck, I can cook.
  18. This is why you can't legally be married to audio gear. There is no monogamy that can overcome the lust I have for that DAC...

I would walk there if I had to. And, thankfully, I could if need be. It's about 4 miles fom me. I probably cannot be as forthrightly magnanimous as Steve, but anyone who came last year knows I will happily bend over backwards to ensure everyone has whatever it is they need. That offer still stands. I will happily provide transportation, both to/from the airport and to/from debauchery before after and during the show itself. Looking forward to this greatly.
  21. My bottle must have had a terrible life, then, as it was nothing like what even those of you who hated it described. Syrupy to the point of being almost sludgy. It tasted like tree sap scraped off a board that drug behind a car. Do like.
  22. I had a pair of CP-6311 on loan for a time, and they worked well for me. I'll definitely look into them. I really didn't care for the Gallo 3.1s when I demoed them a few years ago (sounded awfully gimmicky), so I don't anticipate liking the Stradas much. The upper section of a 3.5, yes. This is a unique sort of travel, though, one in which I stay for a year or two then move again, likely across oceans. In making a big deal about what sort of loudspeakers would be required for this application, I've been given permission to go to hi-fi shops and test loudspeakers lately. It's been wonderful.
  23. Do tell me how you felt about it. I'll not colour your experience by sharing my feelings just yet...
  24. Some of the nicer Ushers are really fine speakers, and no stranger to "all out assaults". Not sure what the dealer network looks like out there, though. I'll be giving a test to the little gallo strada monitors for a travelling system.
