The Multi Amp aka Dynalo Mk2

It's length and I think either will do so we just go with the 99 pieces. Although I wonder if that means we can have 99 + 56 for a total of 155.

Kerrys awesome mini will fit a FPE profile 1 enclosure. The smallest I could get it: 133.92mm (W) x 172.72mm (D) x 42mm (H) Smaller than Cavalli’s Liquid Carbon in height and depth, and only sl

^ I'll give it a try as well.

I'm game for 4 pieces.  When it comes to testing pots I dunno what I'm doing so someone will have to show me like I'm two years old before I solder it into place.

Kerry,

Would this Hammond case work 1455Q2202 for the board or did you have something else in mind?

To clarify, is the price quoted for a balanced stereo pot or single-end stereo pot?

The price is for a 4-gang pot which is stereo balanced.

I’m game, hoping/aiming for a yield of 21 usable pcs.

Yeah, I thought that was a typo

I am trying to figure out a way so that we all get usable pots in a way that makes sense.

The most obvious way is just to let people order what they want and then people get an untested number of pots. The problem is that we could have situations where someone building one board is encouraged to order 4 to have a usable pot and ends with 4 good ones while someone else gets no good ones. This means people would have to trade further to get a functioning pot or the first person just hoards them.

Another possibility is to purchase all pots available and the test them to find out how many function adequately. Then divide the total price by the number of functional pots in order to split the cost of failures. But unless all functional pots are purchased then the person organizing is left on the hook for unsold pots.

Of course this is only really an issue if the failures are as high as claimed. For a small order they might be more careful. I'll start a group buy thread soon for these pots.

I also heard back from TKD US distributor.  The 4CP-601 is $55.51 plus shipping per pot at a quoted quantity of 40. Let me know if there's enough demand for this pot as well.  I want to try it myself so I asked if there was a minimum.

IIRC Justin and Birgir both had bad batches of the Alpha pots.  Birgir was able to send the defective batch back and his replacement batch was good.

If it were an option to test the pots before they're sent out to the group buy participants, that would be great.  I don't see why the reseller wouldn't accept returns on the defective units, but if not, then the cost should be spread out to all of the participants.  I'd happily take 10 or so to try them out but could live with less.

Also, curious if they have 50K versions as well.

If sending back defective pots is an option then I don't mind going through the extra work to ship them back. I'll ask about testing and their return policy.

I'd like 3 working Alpha pots, unless the Dynalo mini board switches to use TKDs (which I think I'll have enough of after the last GB clears). If we go with Alphas, I don't mind buying extras to increase the probability of getting a solid yield.

Random thought, how important is it that pots are soldered in? Can the pins be inserted into a connector? Sort of like an Arduino shield or a Raspberry Pi HAT?

It will just change the height of the volume knob a bit.

Is there enough interest for the TDK pot?  Shall I start a new thread for that?

the alpha route certainly sounds fraught, despite the low price. I have an alpha and some tkd so can go either way board-wise.

I'm ok with starting a group buy for the TKD it's just that the price was higher than the recently closed group buy due to the US distributor.

cspirou, can you see if TKD will sell to you directly?  The price is cheaper by like $10 or $12 a pot if you can buy directly.

I'll check with TKD as well and see what they say.

I heard back from Song Huei and they said they do QC testing and they will replace whatever we find is out of spec. i didn't ask if we could do 99+56 but I'll ask that if we pass the 99 pot threshold, which seems likely with everyone trying to order 4.

Also said they would prefer an answer by Oct 4 so I am getting this rolling right away.

TKD said I can order directly from them. Will add their pots to the group buy

sweet, what kind of price did they give?

Kerry,

Any chance the TKD 4CP-601 can be incorporated into the board?

Yes.  I would do it as two separate boards.  I don't think I can overlay the two pots but will take a look.
