May 23, 20188 yr Do you see any reason to consider the higher range models (Pontus, Venus, Terminator)?
May 23, 20188 yr I want to try some of them but I'm not going to pay retail. Been around the dac block a few too many times...

May 25, 20188 yr In terms of price, yes. The Pontus (cheaper) and Venus (more expensive) bracket the Yggy in price. The Terminator is almost double the Yggy's price.
May 25, 20188 yr There are certainly differences in the sound between the Yggy and the Ares, but I like them both. Don't know about the others.
May 26, 20188 yr Thanks, Kerry. Would you say the Yggy has a robust power supply and thus offer greater dynamics and headroom as compared to the Ares?
May 26, 20188 yr He could say that, but it would be meaningless because there is never that clear an A --> B relationship in audio or, indeed, life -- however much we might wish it were so.
May 26, 20188 yr No. I think it's more a matter of different filters. I don't think the Yggy has more dynamics or headroom. In fact I think the Yggy is slightly more subdued. My only peeve with the Ares is that they don't isolate the USB so I needed to add something to isolate the power / ground. 2 minutes ago, Hopstretch said: He could say that, but it would be meaningless because there is never that clear an A --> B relationship in audio or, indeed, life -- however much we might wish it were so. Agreed. I've spent time with both and did some poor man's A/B listening. Nothing scientific. Like I said, I enjoy them both.
