The owner says it's a big block of maple made from gluing together smaller pieces of maple. He had some woodworker guy make the maple base and get the holes & cutouts drilled in the right places.

I've been thinking of using that circuit for the CCS in my tube headphone amp planned in the future, but I'll probably just go with a simple cascode of 10m45's for now.

If you have trouble finding 10m45's let me know... I stocked up.

If you want to use a pcb for the ccs it looks like dsavitsk will have some available soon. http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?postid=1359849#post1359849

Just finished the prototype for the Edipis line of cables (fully shielded, balanced)

This looks suspiciously like the posty line of cables from H&D <.<

i heard nate found the H&D schematics for balanced pj cables on the internet and stole them for his own design. it happened on headwize or something, swear, some old head-fi'er told me.

Seeing as Nugget Audio is a wholly owned subsidiary of H&D that would make sense, no?

The problem is with how fast the flagship technology was allowed to trickled down to the budget divisions...

Well I was going to start on a pair of Aliens in January, but these look mighty sweet Nate. My home gear has been crying out for balanced cables for years.

I just need more time. :mikey2: Dammit, I need more time for all of this!

Thanks! Just FYI, total construction time for those is less than an hour with the biggest time suck being dealing with the shield. They do sound quite good though, especially given the extremely modest cost.

In about a week I will be knees deep into completing a Beta Deuce Deuce build.

How do you deal with the shield? This is something I've been thinking about the past couple days. Do you just put a piece of wire up into the shield and solder that onto the connector, or do you leave enough shield out that you can twist it seperate from the signal wires and use that?

Thanks for the info, Nate. I usually see shields only connected at source end. Have you found connected at both to be better for you?

Cool, thanks Renato.

For single ended cables I usuall connect them at the source end only. For balanced cables I've tried source-end and both, with no difference (in my rig). But for the most part I follow the industry standard of source side only.

  • 2 weeks later...

With week and half off from work (and at least half of those days off actually free), I'm planning on taking apart my audio rack, finish the shelves, then expand the rack one way or another. Wish me luck.
