Your Favorite Popcorn

All my life, no popcorn has ever been fully acceptable to me. Suggest to me a popcorn that is acceptable.

Greetings from the Sunny South!

real popping corn popped in hot oil.

well yea but, I was thinking that he wanted something microwavable :P

My wife buys gourmet popcorn, like specific varietals and the like. But mostly I can't tell the difference. I just buy the largest kernels I can find, and pop them in olive oil. Coconut oil is better, but I'll be damned if I'm keeping that nasty stuff around. Then the real trick: super small salt grains. Popcorn or pickling salt.

I like the stuff they sell in big tubs, already popped, coated in caramel. I don't like popped popcorn in general though. :-\

without salt, popcorn ain't popcorn; it's half-finished crap in a bowl.

salt + popcorn = deliciousness

takes all kinds, i guess.

Well, i think it's all about what one is used to.

Here in Germany Popcorn is nearly always sweet, so you grow up with it.

When i was in the States i bought a bag of honey butter popcorn, believing it was sweet. ( I mean honey and salt?...)

Imagine my suprise when i spit the first bite all over the floor....

I prefer the salt-free kind, they also have lightly salted. If you want the kind with butter flavor or more-than-lightly salted, I'd go with Newman's Own.

But the best popcorn is Orville Redenbacher, air-popped. You can also salt/butter/cheese/caramel/cinnamon/sugar/pbj/whatever to taste.

not a huge fan of it, wouldn't eat it unless i'm at the movies or something

Popcorn kernels popped in hot oil on the stove with very light butter and put some tamari or soy sauce mixed 50/50 with some tariyaki sauce in a spray bottle and spray some of that on it. Best popcorn ever. If you don't want the cholesterol then you can skip the butter.

< huge fan of popcorn. I use Orville Redenbacher popped in one of those big silver mixing bowls on the stove, using canola oil. I've read that peanut oil is even better, but that's expensive. I usually season it with garlic salt/powder, fine-grained salt like pickling salt, butter salt, and actual melted butter. Verah niiice.

Parmesan and Red Hot is nice for a change.

For microwave popcorn, I use cheap old Weavers, then I put a liberal amount of cheese powder my fiancee's mom gets from the Amish market in and shake it up...that's pretty damn good.

If you want to go deluxe with microwave popcorn, I like Orville Redenbacher's Pour Over series.

There was some thing on the food network about buffalo popcorn today, but I missed it. Sounds awesome though.

Oh, another kickin' topping for popcorn: Old Bay seasoning.

oo that sounds interesting.

My fiancee would like that...she's always mentioning old bay seasoning. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't care much for it, though.
