June 25, 200818 yr I like most of the flying dog beers. They're good and reasonably cheap. I absolutely detest every victory beer. So overloaded with hops. But then I'm biased against that over-hopped microbrew.
June 25, 200818 yr i've only had three and liked them all, prima pils, golden monkey, and the hop devil ale. the last being my favorite.
June 25, 200818 yr 4 Unibroue Maudite (no 16) $6.00 Sweet, the Maudite is a good beer. The Unibroue brewery is not far from where I live and most of their beers range from decent to excellent. I just wish they'd take more risks and release something other than Belgian-style beers. My favorite from them is the Trois-Pistoles. Yummy.

I didn't get either of those because it's been really hot here recently and I thought that the Maudite would be the best of the three as a hot weather beer. I'm willing to hear other opinions though.

IMO, none of the Unibroue beers are hot weather beers, they're too sweet, creamy and rich to be enjoyed on summer days. I prefer them late at night or during a supper, but YMMV. My hot weather beer style of choice is very hoppy IPAs.
June 25, 200818 yr I'd rather stab myself in the throat than drink most hoppy IPAs. Belgian whites! And you live in the country that produces the best strong IPAs.
June 25, 200818 yr Author And you live in the country that produces the best strong IPAs. Yep. Unfortunately, Russian River Brewery doesn't ship their beer down this far south yet. So no Pliney the Elder. The good news is that they plan on doing it soon, so I have hope! i've never had that problem. that's not what she said "I'll just have to choke it down".
June 25, 200818 yr 6 Hoegaarden $4.75 6 Rogue Dead Guy (microbrew from OH) $4.75 4 Duvel Belgian Golden Ale $6.50 4 Unibroue Maudite (no 16) $6.00 Excellent choices. Duvel in particular is a fantastic drop.
July 7, 200817 yr Dunno good ole Fat Tire is my favorite summer beer. Their 1554 Black Ale edges it out during less warm climes though.
August 21, 200817 yr My last ,new found, was Kirin beer, really nice Kirin Beer:: The home of good fortune and great beer!
August 21, 200817 yr Kirin tastes like a beer you'd expect with from a culture with the history of japan. You can tell their brewng tradition in every sip.
August 21, 200817 yr Kirin tastes like a beer you'd expect with from a culture with the history of japan. You can tell their brewng tradition in every sip. Very diplomatic. I like it just fine in the right context -- very cold, at the sushi bar.
August 21, 200817 yr In a sushi bar, I'm either drinking sake or tea. Or diet coke Edited August 21, 200817 yr by grawk
August 21, 200817 yr So rice wine > rice beer? I'm a sake ignoramus and no way in Hell am I touching Diet Anything.
August 21, 200817 yr Certainly. They have a tradition that involves brewing sake. Not so much with beer. If I'm drinking beer with my sushi, it'll be a beer that is suitable. Like a nice hoegaarden.
August 21, 200817 yr Drifting off topic here, but when I lived in DC I used to patronize a sushi bar where the chef was a huge Burgundy hound. His theory was that they particularly complemented umami-rich dishes. My theory was that since he was selling some great stuff at very fair prices, I wasn't going to argue with him!
August 22, 200817 yr hoegaarden? i want something sharp and crisp with suchi. something hoppy. Indeed. A real pilsner and sushi is a great combo.
August 22, 200817 yr I don't find cloudy wheat beers particularly crisp. Kristall on the other hand......
