Collective Nouns

Featured Replies

Inspired by recent goings on in the Slow Forum thread, I was reminded of the joy that are Collective Nouns.

There are plenty of examples out there, both real and imagined.

Any that you particularly like, or are apposite for this forum or its members?

Some I could think of were

  • An asylum of head-casers.

  • A dazzle of Justin's Designs.

  • A :basement: of Ray Samuels Designs ?

For the brits amongst us, given recent economic developments

    • A wunch of bankers.

    For the Developers:

    [*]Collection<Object>

Maybe Vicki has a few favo(u)rites from her former professional role.

I've had a flood of former professional roles. I'm pretty sure you don't want nouns from some of them.

"...It's important to have a job that makes a difference, boys. That's why I manually masturbate caged animals for artificial insemination..."

A basement of dunces?

An index of illiterates*?

*Those individuals who find it challenging to truly comprehend "reading".

I forget where, but one thesaurus has "California" (or something close to it) as a synonym for compilation, collection, or aggregation or something. Considering how many members are Californians, I would think that that would be an appropriate use of the term for some subset of "all head-casers".

A flight of fail.

Particularly egregious singular effort -- "A Homer"?
