October 9, 200916 yr I'll probably be getting myself a laptop (my first!) at some point in the next several months. I hate touchpads. What are my options? October 9, 200916 yr Author My HP laptop has a button so it's easy to disable/enable the touchpad. It's a button, like disabling wireless? That is nice. That'd definitely be an option.
October 9, 200916 yr My HP laptop has a button so it's easy to disable/enable the touchpad. I spent an hour trying to figure out how my friend disabled the touchpad on her HP laptop.

October 9, 200916 yr I believe you can disable touchpad on virtually all laptop? "Fn" key + F9 on my Toshiba
October 9, 200916 yr The last three Thinkpads I've had have the option of disabling the touchpad (I hate 'em, too). I'm sure any current Lenovo device would let you turn it off.
October 9, 200916 yr Close lid? My two year old Lenovo ThinkPad has a setting for trackpad, nipple or both.
October 9, 200916 yr All lenovo thinkpads have an option to choose between trackpoint and touchpad, trackpoint only, and touchpad only. fn+f8. get one of those.
October 11, 200916 yr Author Seriously considering Sony Signature P (no relation). Any recommendations of getting this vs. getting this and just upgrading it? Or doing similarly with another laptop?
October 11, 200916 yr I shat a brick when I saw 256GB SSD and then I shat another brick when I saw the price. Nice. You should probably try out the mini keyboard before buying, unless you're going to hook up an external one. My dad uses a 10" Acer Aspire One and it's pretty cramped, so I don't even know how small the keys would have to be on an 8". Maybe you could just use your two index fingers. Edit: With the second one you're stuck with the 1.33GHz Atom, which is highly underpowered in most applications. Even the 1.6 and 1.66GHz versions aren't that fast. Edit 2: I forgot to add that with your eyesight and the small size of the screen, it might be hard to read stuff.
October 11, 200916 yr Author On the bright side, no-one would believe that that little thing was worth (MSRP) US$2K. They'd still want to steal it, they just wouldn't know what it is they'd be stealing.
October 11, 200916 yr it doesn't actually take long to transition to track pads once you decide you want to. And having a wrist support is a semi-big deal
October 11, 200916 yr I believe you can disable touchpad on virtually all laptop? I disabled mine, but it wasn't on purpose. I think "broke it" might be a better way of putting it.

And having a wrist support is a semi-big dealLook, the OP said he wasn't interested, it's not really up for discussion. Sounds just like those "what kind of desktop speakers should I get for my computer"/"you need a DAC" threads.

October 11, 200916 yr Personally I would suggest getting a lenovo as they are pretty solid. I don't personally know anyone with a broken down lenovo laptop. I would stay away from hp because of their overheating problems. Both my dad and my laptop are dead because of the same problem and hp wants $400 USD to fix it. Also to me, Sony laptop seems to be somewhat overpriced. Just my $0.02.
