The Headcase Stax thread

It won't damage the driver. The piece of dust could actually burn away, from what I have been told by a repairer.

Arrived yesterday and it really opens up every electrostatic headphone that I own. I was looking for an amp that can bring more bass out of my HE90 than HEV90 so I drained my pocket to bid on this and

  • I have been getting back at this..working up to a limited run of these as the STAX SR-X9000 and Audeze CRBN have made that need to happen. But the chassis is extraordinarily expensive and difficult to

The o2 driver is fully sealed, so unless the mylar dust covers got damaged, there is no way dust could get in the driver. If it did, then yes, it could cause problems, like we see on the ESP950.

Nope, still fully sealed, no damage to the covers.

So if you dismantle the headphones is it possible to blow/brush the dust off?

Or does being a fully sealed driver make this impossible?

I am not sure. There are screws, if I remember correctly, but I don't feel comfortable in doing something like that.

You just need to open it up enough to be able to blow on the dustcovers a bit. That usually fixes the issue with my 'stats, but I don't have an O2 so I have no idea how to open it up.

Dreamwhisper, I want to make something clear. If you are going to buy my headphone because it costs 300€ less than going rate, looking forward to fix it and have a perfectly working Omega 2, just buy one from someone you trust who can sell it for 1500$ or that ballpark. If you want to buy this Omega 2, you must accept that it might or might not be fixable. If I had the certainity that it was, I'd do it myself and then sell it for a lot more.

I don't want to seem rude but just to be clear. You are on the top of the queue, but I am not sure if you are convinced yet.

If you aren't sure, there already are other people who have accepted this fact.

Crystal Clear. But if you were him, you would want to make the best percentage play possible. Smart to ask here first.

Absolutely smart, and correct too. I also wanted to play my part, because he seemed a bit undecisive.

Perfectly on the up and up, ya gotta love it. Your phones are presented perfectly and dead honest in the description. First thing I thought was, wonder if I can fix them?

That's a damn good deal for what is probably a minor issue that is easily fixed. I'd buy it in a flash if I knew there was a way to build amplification to drive it into producing some treble for cheap.

Cables work well as "equalizers" with the Omega 2. Unfortunately, the soundstage will still be smallish. The instrument positioning is super fast and precise, but the HD800 I have heard, for example, manage to sound both focused and big.

I have my Lambdas and my Jecklin Floats for soundstage.:) Otherwise I've pretty much resigned myself to the fact that headphones generally can't do soundstage, though they may have great headstage. Definitely have to hear the HD800 sometime in my life; seems to be right up my alley, despite being dynamic.

Hey Tony

You're advice was helpful

It's been a pleasure corresponding with you as well, you're a very nice person. :)

Glad I have helped clearing up your thoughts. ;)

I'm going to wait for more impressions with the O2/exstata (I've given up on remembering what's upper case) combo before I consider buying an O2. As it is, I preferred my SR-5NB or SR-X through the SRD-7 + my CR-620 to the O2 through the SRM-1/MkII. :(

A friend of mine needs some help with changing the mains voltage on his 717, could you guys help him out a bit?

:)

For some reason, putting the jumpers in positions 2,5 (for 240V) or 3,5 (for 220V) doesn't work for him. But since the 117V setting (which it is configured for right now) works the 120V windings should still be intact, I think.

I'll post pictures of the transformer taps as soon as he gets back to me.

I need a picture of the taps but it looks like there is a missing wire @ the nr.5 slot.

Tell him to remove the PCB cover and look at the actual windings. If they are ok then he can just hardwire it:
