mikeymad Posted November 5 Report Posted November 5 Famous Blue Raincoat. Songs of Leonard Cohen by Jennifer Warnes (1986) https://open.qobuz.com/album/0826663104905 Example: Very well recorded Jennifer. 5
robm321 Posted November 8 Report Posted November 8 (edited) Superb sound quality, especially for a live show. Barber isn't the only star of the show. The band is amazing, especially on Black Magic Woman. The guitar solo on that song is like some Allan Holdsworth shit, the percussion kicks in and none of it is lost in the crowd who show appreciation. Ex. Edited November 8 by robm321 5

Not surprisingly there's also a Retrospective I set also, but that came and went before I knew and seems difficult to find. I only have Apple Music and Spotify services at the moment, but someone on Spotify created a playlist with tracks from both sets - Johann Johannsson Retrospective... There's also the Last and First Men film (2 LP set) 1

There's also the Last and First Men film (2 LP set) Thanks! I'll have to do the same with Tidal (cancelled my Spotify subscription and renewed my Tidal near the start of the boycott). They do have an EP entitled, Retrospective II Rarities, but it's only 20 minutes. 6 hours ago, philodox said: Working through my FLAC catalog and doing a little hunt and peck for some of my favourites. Archive, nice. (I'm still a big fan.) And yeah, I need to listen to that Hania Rani. 1

They're a cool band too, if I remember correctly each of their albums is in a complete different genre. I'm a Trip Hop guy, so Londinium is a gem, but I think their other albums are decent as well. (just completely different) And thanks buddy Edited November 15 by philodox
HiWire Posted November 16 Report Posted November 16 Paul Buchanan - Mid Air (2012) Singer of The Blue Nile, his first solo album 3
mikeymad Posted November 16 Report Posted November 16 (edited) ^^ Very cool - I have had this on the top of my queue for about a week and I have listened to it a couple of times. A Walk Across the Rooftops by The Blue Nile (1984) https://open.qobuz.com/album/hzszuzspagdab Example: An Amazing sounding Album. Some backstory if one does not know. Linn (Scottish Electronics fame) was wanting to test out their new recording console, and brought in The Blue Nile for their first release. (LKH 1) - they did well. Edited November 16 by mikeymad 2
HiWire Posted November 16 Report Posted November 16 (edited) Yes, I was just listening to Hats (1989) and I wanted to see if the band members had done anything else since then. I've been listening to A Walk Across the Rooftops a few times in the last few weeks, since I first got it in the summer. I think the Blue Nile is basically broken up. Their 3rd and 4th albums, Peace at Last and High, didn't garner the same level of critical and popular recognition, so maybe it's best to leave it at that (from the sound of Moore's last interviews about the band, it seems to be a bitter ending, at least on his part). mikeymad Posted Thursday at 12:30 AM Report Posted Thursday at 12:30 AM Take Ten by Paul Desmond (1963) https://album.link/t5m4fcv3fkmcw Example: What do you after Take Five? Take Ten, of course. Lovely set of tracks - with Gene Cherico, Connie Kay, and Jim Hall on the team. Album was not on my radar until now. 3
robm321 Posted Thursday at 05:44 PM Report Posted Thursday at 05:44 PM Physical CD Mahler was right to transcribe this quartet into a symphony (Death and The Maiden). Its been a favorite CD of mine for years. 2

skullguise Posted Sunday at 02:53 AM Report Posted Sunday at 02:53 AM (edited) Cara Dillon - After The Morning. Lovely album, love her voice - sweet, sometimes frail sounding but very pure. Just what the doctor ordered after a long week for work. Helped that Andrew's cat June sat on my lap and then shoulder when I laid down. Sample song: Edited Sunday at 02:55 AM by skullguise 4
mikeymad Posted 16 hours ago Report Posted 16 hours ago Dvorák: Symphony No. 9 in E Minor, Op. 95 "From the New World" by Leonard Bernstein (1962) https://open.qobuz.com/album/5099706056324 Example: Poking around at some versions. (no, not a full survey). I really like the lyricism of Lenny's interpretation, I am in favor of the power of the Karajan recording above. Originally a CBS Masterworks recording, Sony turned up the volume and released when acquired. 1

Almost gives me a Jonathan Demme vibe (yes, I realize the chronology is reversed). Von Karajan is of course a favourite, but my first was this one: I grew to a big appreciation for Concertgebouw Orchestra, not just from this recording, but multiple recordings across multiple conductors. And since you're a Rick Wakeman fan, I will also recommend his soundtrack for Crimes of Passion. I know that seems like a non-sequitur, but it's not, trust me.
