July 22, 2025Jul 22 and.. Scream by Ozzy Osbourne (2021) https://album.link/b02swtdbpb428 Example: Not a fav album, but some gems in there. And the sad...
July 22, 2025Jul 22 The Cardigans also did a cover of "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath" on their first album from '94. My college roommate loved that band and had all of their albums (which was ~3 at that point.)
July 23, 2025Jul 23 ... and Ordinary Man by Ozzy Osbourne (2020) https://album.link/nz94tsmmhqxd0 Example: Amazing trick that his voice is like a switch, 70yo+ at this point and his voice is right there the entire time, and of course he gets the players to show up.
July 23, 2025Jul 23 Listened to Vol 4 and Sabotage earlier, on to my favourite album of (early) Ozzy era: ...which has 5 of my favourite tracks by them (Back Street Kids, You Won't Change Me, Gypsy, All Moving Parts (Stand Still), and Dirty Women).
July 23, 2025Jul 23 ...and Patient Number 9 by Ozzy Osbourne (2022) https://album.link/hm7bxmvpdbdjz Example: His final release as my final listen for the day. Thanks Ozzman for sharing your art and pain with us. The Ozzman goeth. 🤘
July 23, 2025Jul 23 Didn't get a chance to listen to anything yesterday, and over half a century of music is too much to take in, so I'll just listen to this one. In a way it covers it all. vinyl
July 23, 2025Jul 23 Central Heating (Expanded Edition) by Heatwave (1977) https://album.link/fqbsvcbx7srf0 Example: Some cool grooves on a warm day.
July 24, 2025Jul 24 Who's Sorry Now by Connie Francis (1958) https://album.link/kmwg40gxf7nmt Example: Mic was a little hot back then with some peaking, but she could belt.

July 25, 2025Jul 25 In keeping with the theme of recent deaths: Mozart: Violin Concertos, Vol. 2 by Francesca Dego (2022) https://album.link/9hmfjqg7gqtbm Example: RIP, last week, Conductor Sir Roger Norrington (91). This had been in my queue since last year, but never made it to the top. Sad that it had to be posthumously. It turns out to be his last recording. He was not really a part of my musical journey. He recorded on labels and conducted works that I was not buying at the time they were being released. I have some recommendations from a classical music friend that I will check out in the future.
July 25, 2025Jul 25 Aisles, most recent EP, Obras de Los Jaivas (immediately listened to it a second time, it's great, especially 2nd and 4th tracks), now listening to 2023 album, Beyond Drama and it's great, too. Energetic, modern prog rock with lovely, lovely clean vocals
July 26, 2025Jul 26 The Paris Olympics were last year, a decade ago, or so it feels. So - Metal, Opera, decapitating the aristocracy, and a stadium of Ozzy fans. What's not to like.
August 1, 2025Aug 1 Looking Ahead by Ken McIntyre (1960) https://album.link/fdwvwcdwftnxp Example: New issue, originally RVG recording. Some of the hard left/right panning is hard for headphones, but works okay for speakers. And just overall lovely tunes.
August 1, 2025Aug 1 Piano Concerto No.9 In Eb Major, KV 271 - Piano Concerto No.27 in Bb Major, KV 595 by Nicola Frisardi (1995) https://album.link/bzr0znrvcphj6 Example: Checking out the Chesky releases. This has great sonics of course, and the performance is good. More romantic interpretation that I was expecting. And there is a flaw at the beginning of the third track, which is a bummer, so one blemish on an otherwise great release. I checked three different sources and it is all the same. (Edit - and I do wish it was high res) Edited August 1, 2025Aug 1 by mikeymad
August 7, 2025Aug 7 Tarzan by Various Artists (1999) https://album.link/89gxj8dmg0md6 Example: This soundtrack has no right to be this good for a mediocre Disney movie. Phil and Mark went hard on this one.
August 11, 2025Aug 11 Roger Waters: This Is Not A Drill by Roger Waters (2025) https://album.link/nkjdhgpg5zswt Example: I assume that the visuals were a lot more political than the music. It sounds really good, and I liked some of the reworkings of some tunes.
August 12, 2025Aug 12 Human Universe by Hayato Sumino (2024) https://album.link/zbtbf0kvjxt5q Example: Good debut on Sony. A mix of Originals and Classical works, example is original. He only has a couple of major works under his belt so far. Known on the internet for his version of the Cadenza in Liszt's Hungarian Rhapsody #2.
August 13, 2025Aug 13 Not great, not bad, enjoyeable. Good to see the violaist getting love. They're like the bass guitarists of classical music. Edited August 13, 2025Aug 13 by robm321
August 13, 2025Aug 13 New to me, excellent sound quality and performance. I need to get this on vinyl.
August 16, 2025Aug 16 Lots of Monika Roscher Bigband (esp. the live videos on YouTube). This is delightfully genre-defiant -- it's prog, but unlike much other prog I've ever heard.
August 16, 2025Aug 16 Oh, hilarious, that's the third version. The second is the first thing I heard by her -- opening track on her 2023 studio album. Apparently, there's a first version from a collective she worked with:
