I was gonna post this isn Slow, but I think it's more appropriate here.  TMBG's Flood came out 30 years ago today.  After I got past my initial "holy shit am I old" reaction, I reflected upon the firs

The Cardigans also did a cover of "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath" on their first album from '94.

My college roommate loved that band and had all of their albums (which was ~3 at that point.)

Ordinary Man
by Ozzy Osbourne (2020)

Example:

Amazing trick that his voice is like a switch, 70yo+ at this point and his voice is right there the entire time, and of course he gets the players to show up.

Listened to Vol 4 and Sabotage earlier, on to my favourite album of (early) Ozzy era:

Technical Ecstasy - Wikipedia

...which has 5 of my favourite tracks by them (Back Street Kids, You Won't Change Me, Gypsy, All Moving Parts (Stand Still), and Dirty Women).

Didn't get a chance to listen to anything yesterday, and over half a century of music is too much to take in, so I'll just listen to this one. In a way it covers it all.

In keeping with the theme of recent deaths:

Example:

RIP, last week, Conductor Sir Roger Norrington (91). This had been in my queue since last year, but never made it to the top. Sad that it had to be posthumously. It turns out to be his last recording.  He was not really a part of my musical journey. He recorded on labels and conducted works that I was not buying at the time they were being released. I have some recommendations from a classical music friend that I will check out in the future.

Aisles, most recent EP, Obras de Los Jaivas (immediately listened to it a second time, it's great, especially 2nd and 4th tracks), now listening to 2023 album, Beyond Drama and it's great, too.

Energetic, modern prog rock with lovely, lovely clean vocals

The Paris Olympics were last year, a decade ago, or so it feels.

So - Metal, Opera, decapitating the aristocracy, and a stadium of Ozzy fans. What's not to like.

Example:

New issue, originally RVG recording. Some of the hard left/right panning is hard for headphones, but works okay for speakers. And just overall lovely tunes.

Piano Concerto No.9 In Eb Major, KV 271 - Piano Concerto No.27 in Bb Major, KV 595
by Nicola Frisardi (1995)

Example:

Checking out the Chesky releases. This has great sonics of course, and the performance is good. More romantic interpretation that I was expecting.  And there is a flaw at the beginning of the third track, which is a bummer, so one blemish on an otherwise great release. I checked three different sources and it is all the same.

(Edit - and I do wish it was high res)

I assume that the visuals were a lot more political than the music. It sounds really good, and I liked some of the reworkings of some tunes.

Human Universe

Human Universe
by Hayato Sumino (2024)

Example:

Good debut on Sony. A mix of Originals and Classical works, example is original. He only has a couple of major works under his belt so far. Known on the internet for his version of the Cadenza in Liszt's Hungarian Rhapsody #2.

Not great, not bad, enjoyeable. Good to see the violaist getting love. They're like the bass guitarists of classical music.
