No, I didn't get a pair of L3Ks or W5Ks. But I had been thinking about downsizing my office rig for a while. Having the dedicated DAC, Lunchbox and HD-600s seemed to be a little much. Lately I haven't been using them much at all, and figure it was time for a change when I came across a pair of ATH-EW9s for sale over on Head-Fi. Sure it's still overkill for clip-ons, but first impressions are pretty positive, with the mids especially sounding pretty sweet. They seem to fit my ears well and lock into a position that results in more bass than I was expecting. And needless to say, they look great... The color of the cherry is very deep, and depsite being used, the finish is i…

This is just something I've been tinkering with in my head, not something I'm actually going to do at this point. But I decided to start this thread to see if the idea has any value, and also just to bounce it off all of your heads to look at it from every angle. Has anyone ever heard a reterminated balanced hp-1000 out of a true balanced rig? Even if not, any idea of the potential sonic benefits this could bring? Would it be worth messing with the JGUHBWLSJDYEWLCAQ cable? So far, the HP-2 is the only can I've heard that I like well enough to build a whole system around. Except maybe the HD650.

This is a shaky quest. I received lots of great feedback in my L3000 thread and most of it was very good advice and I'm thrilled with my purchase. Feedback from those that own/have owned/heard the R10 would be appreciated. I would especially like detailed or lengthy descriptions. Thanks. (As for my own thoughts on the R10 my two encounters with them were polar opposites)

I had suspected this for quite a while, but I've only been able to say it a few times. At the Los Angeles Meet, after I had heard everything I wanted to hear, I picked up Headroom's K701 and tried to find the perfect SE amp for it. the idea was that eventually I'd find the perfect synergy, and I did. No, it wasn't some maxed SP amp or that lovely ZD, or even the powerful blockhead... but, a humble DIY dynahi that really brought it up to life. fast forward about a year... Over this summer i've been blessed by the opportunity to baby sit Humanflyz's GS-X. It really did some amazing things to the HD650 (fully balanced of course, with Daba's Benchmarck Dac-1). And that is…

Haven't got around to ordering a K701 replacement yet. Considering AD2000 for A-T's proven noggin-friendliness. Source: PC > Fireface > Max or direct from FF Gets tossed around a lot (the K701 ended up looking very secondhand before it died, and the HD650 doesn't look a lot better). Unsure whether the AD's will hold up. If they're anything like the A900 / A1000 the chances are not so I'll avoid. Yay or nay. And why. Thanks. ?300 ($550 + ship if abroad) is the max I have in mind for this phone, so any other (open) suggestions and why appreciated.

Whether you own an HP-2, L3000, R10, a K1000, or some other spendy OOP can, I'd like to know your thoughts. Do you ever think that someday a can will be produced that will do everything your can does, but better, and at a decent price, causing the market value of your can to plummet? Or do you think your particular can will always command a premium in the marketplace?

There is an odd mark that looks like an imperfection on the wood that shows up under T in "statement" in a few of the photos. Can't for the life of me figure out what is causing that, because it definitely isn't there when I look at them. Impressions to come!

I've put around 6 or 7 hours on these so far. They're much, much better than when I last heard them. -the treble isn't as tipped up as I remember (still on jazz that extends really high, it gets a little fatiguing) -bass extension is not very good (audible at 30 Hz, very good down to 40 Hz) -HF extension is good (~18 Khz) -bass impact is an enigma. On certain albums it has a lot, other times you just hear the bass and it's not remotely palpable -some funkiness going on in the midrange, almost like the upper midrange is slightly recessed -soundstage can't figure this one out...the headstage is pretty small. But the drivers are angled towards your ears... -imagi…

Got a package from Israel today: Its hard to capture the beauty of the wood with my limited photography skills, but they really are gorgeous to look at. First impressions: yeeeeeouch! Man that is a loud upper midrange. \ Which is a shame because a) that is where a lot of my favorite vocals are, and obviously my preference for Grados shows I love a silky warm midrange, and because these cans get so much else right. Midbass (bass guitar) is wonderfully textured and natural sounding, drums have amazing snap & crack and are very lifelike. And actually the highest highs are sweet, not overly bright like the upper midrange/lower highs. The AT fitting syst…

According to Audio-Technica, the w100 never existed. I contacted them for a few parts, and they gave me part numbers for w1000 parts. I wrote back, and said so no w100 parts then? The parts guy told me he assumed I meant w1000 since the w100 doesn't exist. Oops. I don't really blame them, cause the U.S. parts people responded and it was a Japan product. I still thought it was funny.

Having done research on headphones within my price range and having reached no conclusion on what I should buy, I have decided to enlist the help of professional audiophiles. What I'm looking for in headphones is clarity, bass and all that other junk are also important to me, but the most important thing that I look for in headphones is crisp and clear music. If you can find it in your heart, please help this poor soul by providing some thoughtful advice as to what I should purchase.

Is it good? How does it stand against the other big boys? It's the only highend headphone besides the Qualia that I haven't heard yet and I'm very curious about it. I'm thinking of getting either that or the L3000 for a closed headphone with lots of good bass. Thanks, Tao

So I've always understood the term PRaT to somehow be associated with punchiness and speed; I've always thought "fast" when somebody says PRaT. But when I'm listening to the HP2, it almost feels like it is one small step slower rhythm wise then its younger wooden cousin the RS-1, and this slight step back in pace results in perfect timing with the music. Its an uncanny and strangely exhilarating effect. Its like I'm watching a tightrope walker who I am sure is just about to fall off, but they never do. My heart is in my chest as I'm listening to the drums just move along with a crazy sense of purpose, and I always feel like the beat is about to miss itself, but it never d…

Was wondering if anyone had experience with either? I'm getting my rs1's recabled with silver dragon. I had this cable on senns way back when and liked them alot. Was wondering if anyone had experience with a setup like this. Going to be using them with my extreme platinum, and microdac. Mostly was motivated to do this since i like how my silver cabled hf1's sounded, and i know this cable is probably alot nicer then the headphile one (or atleast similar). I tend to like how my rs1's sound alot more recently, and thought it would be a step in a better direction (and fun atleast).

What are your favorite cans for classical? For me, the HD650 still reigns supreme. I admit, sometimes I do listen to classical on the HP-2, but it does seem to lack the space and bottom end "oomph" that these ears crave on large orchestral works. I have tried, tried, tried so many times with the HD600, but it just doesn't do it for me. I thought the Dynahi might officially "wake them up" for me, but they are just too dry and boring. If the HD600 is a waxy hershey's kiss, the HD650 is a giant gob of dark godiva.

Looking to upgrade from MS-2i. I've heard the RS-1 and I like it alot. Never heard the MS-Pro. Any information on the difference in sound signature would be appreciated. All recommendations would be welcome. Renato

Basically i got this huge wad of cash, and i need your advice on how to spend it. I don't want to do anything too silly. I was thinking of getting a few happy meals at mcdonalds... then maybe spluring the change on pennies i can throw out the window of my car. I was thinking also, maybe i can pickup an airhorn. I can use it inapropriate times (ex funerals, in the bathroom at my office when some guy is in the can). You guys think i should get a source? What kind of source can i get for that kinda scratch???

Man, that ringing still won't go away. It's not bad, fairly low level, but it's persistant. Went to see the doctor and told him I got some new headphones; he said "Oh, what kind?" As soon as I said Sennheiser, he got this look on his face, and it wasn't good. "You get them out, turn them up a bit, hey they aren't distorting, let's turn them up, they sound so good, so up, and up, and up." Apparently these things are popular with his clientele... Hollywood types. This would be just my luck... ten years standing in front of LOUD amps at gigs with the volume up so loud it shook the building. Years with the car radio so loud you could hear it down the street. One week with…

Until I get my isolation booth set up in my house (no, it's not a joke), I need a set of headphones that block out the neighbors. If I hear "You cheat on me again and I'll knock your fucking teeth out!" interrupt Beethoven's 9th one more time, I think I'll scream What would you guys say is the best set of closed cans? I'd prefer balanced and am definitely open to mods.

...brand new HD595. The headband ony my HD580 cracked. It was one of those refurbs that I got off amazon for really cheap. Sennheiser customer service was super nice the entire time on the phone- I spoke to two really helpful reps. Took them about 2 weeks to get them here. Now I'm sort of confused what to do, and it doesn't help that I just opened the parcel now, and I'm a little drunk. I was using the HD580 for late night TV and DVD watching on my laptop. So now I'm sort of in a pizzle. I could call up Sennheiser and -ask them why they replaced my Hd580 with a 595 -keep the 595 -ask for a 600, since it seems the 580 is done for good (this is what the re…
