You don't have to be a Fall fan to enjoy this article about what happened between their previous album (Fall Heads Roll) and their new album, Reformation Post-TLC. And like the article says, its nothing to Marc E. Smith, the only constant throughout the band's 25 albums, where Smith has seen over 50 musicians pass through the band's ranks. Taken from http://www.gloriousnoise.com/reviews/2007/the_fallreformation_post_tlc.php

http://www.mofi.com/productcart/pc/viewPrd.asp?idcategory=7&idproduct=81 Anyone heard this? I used to love this album when I was in grade school, and am considering picking it up. Also of interest is the Zappa "We're Only In It For The Money" MFSL disc.

I've read that teaching is very important to her and that she didn't want to tour to finish school, but this is crazy coming weeks after the release of Illumination. The album has the band poised for some success considering it's their most accessible album IMO. I'll be curious to see what becomes of the band without her and Morten, and if she'll go on to do something on her own or with others. I figured it was worth mentioning here with how many spins Illumination has gotten recently. [edit] News from here [/edit]

Bands I Useta Like Some really funny stuff in there. Make sure you read Smashing Pumpkins and Stabbing Westward in order. I also particularly liked the Phish one and laughed my ass off at the Stone Temple Pilots one. In fact, I'm getting the giggles right now.

So, I have a new favourite record store -- it's called Strangeland Records. It's near the intersection of Columbia Pike and Little River Turnpike in Northern Virginia. They specialize in all the music I like the most -- industrial, goth, electro, metal and goth -- the dark musics, as it were. And punk (I'm not that into punk, but they are). And they're having a sale starting Friday. I found the new Agalloch, Unexpect, And One, a limited Psyclone 9 and a whole bunch of others I hadn't planned on getting. Don't go in there expecting to find Katie Melua. Unless she's suddenly become a Suicide Girl.

So, which albums got it done for you this year? I know there's a month left, but I decided to go through my collection and pick out the albums released this year that I thought were really, really strong efforts. As it turns out, it ended up at a list of exactly 25. Instead of just listing them, I figured I'd throw a thought or two about each one, so people would know the why to go with the what. Anyway... In alphabetical order (because trying to place them would be impossible): Agalloch - Ashes Against The Grain It's hard to believe they could improve on Pale Folklore & The Mantle, but they did. Their ability to create an atmosphere is unparallelled. Android Lu…

Does anyone have a copy of "Rock Me Amadeus", the "international" version with the English-speaking voice-over that gives a synopsis of his life? I know the lyrics (well, I found the lyrics), but I really need to hear it...I have the German-language version already. I vaguely remember it having more impact.

For those of you who are living under a rock, Sarah McLachlan's Wintersong album is now out, got myself a copy the day it was released. Yes it's a christmas album, but it's got Sarah special touch, I actually like it more than her Afterglow album. Also out on CD is the full uncut version of Mirroball, this is a 2 CD set that contains the entire concert set. Yeah there's overlap with the Afterglow Live CD/DVD set but it's different enough to be worth it. While I was at the store I also saw the A Piano: the Collection which is the Tori Amos box set that comes in a piano keyboard. I didn't buy it but I took a look at the track listings and it seems pretty interesting. I'l…

Have any of you discovered Pandora yet? http://www.pandora.com/ Pretty cool way of being introduced to new music -- I have several "stations" set up already (Ambient Electronica, Organica, Eccentrica, eMetal, and Electro Industrial). If you are on, and/or you don't mind me giving them your email address (I.E. if you are going to sign on anyway), then let me know (PM me your E), and I'll "share" them with you. And apparently, there's some sort of sharing of information going on with the Slimdevices Squeezebox, so if you have one of these, you can listen anywhere and all of the other functionality (and you will want to be able to rate and skip songs, &c.), not…

And which ones do you plan on attending in the future? Myself, I never found time to go to a lot of concerts, but I'm hoping to change that now that I've got time and money. Before I moved to Houston though, I was lucky enough to see Pearl Jam on my last night in the 'Burgh Eddie was really feeling the crowd, and went through 2 bottles of wine and played for about 2 and a half hours. September 11th I finally get to see Tool

What the hell is going on at 1:39 of this track? That's more than a kick drum. On a side note: I challenge anyone with good bass on their headphones to listen to that track and say that the bass at that point isn't "visceral" (NSFW -- "I don't give a fuck you fucking fuck" being amongst the lyrics). You should feel that bass down somewhere around your diaphragm.

So a few days ago I was leafing through Guitar Player at the local library when I came across a short article on Wolfgang's Vault. It's a site which has a ton of cool memorabilia, but that's besides the point, it's the home of Vault Radio which has turned out to be the best internet radio station I've ever come across. The playlist has tons of songs from live concerts by Albert King, Hendrix, Jeff Beck, The Band, and many other rock artists from the 60's & 70's. Been listening to it ever since I found it.
