  1. Rescued a kitty. Not the one I went to get, but that one get rescued, too, so double-plus-good. Working name is Skye

New Trident: I love it. Was worried about the size when I first put it on, and I still think its a little big for my wrist, but I still love it.

  4. Congrats on the new companion Dusty. I hope you guys have a long and rich relationship.
  5. No tubes and nothing is set in stone as of yet except that it won't have tubes. We can call it a mix between the KGSSHV and the KGST.

If you want to run it at +/-400V then you need 325-335VAC rails. 280VAC for +/-350V. For current 110mA is sufficient but I'd shoot for 140-150mA to be on the safe side. 30-36VCT is about 500mA. Heater windings should not be CT as they have -400VDC floating on them. You have to have two heaters or you will have massive problems so one for each board. 1.5A is more than enough to account for the variables in the tubes. No soft start for me as I simply don't think it is needed. The tube won't arc at these low voltages.
  7. As I see it, there are two ways this can end: 1) Like most other Kickstarters, it hits delays, fails to reach goals, and basically shows that despite all the hype and backing, some people just cannot deliver on their promises. Something this publicized, I expect there to be some sort of backlash if that happens. Moreover, I think it would say to the world that this business model of pay some random stranger money for the promise of something later is not the best business model. 2) It goes as planned and I get a hat and some potato salad. I personally think it will reflect on the guy who started this. He made a bold but rather stupid promise and still followed up on it. Stupid as they may be, I still like people like that.
  8. As we have found, cat names can change as personality dictates. Oh, and because cats don't give a fuck. Hi Skye, and good work Dusty!
  9. Ask 5 transformer winders and you'll get 10 answers. Short answer is nickel (which is the same as mu-metal) will saturate quickly with DC requiring a larger core. The increased core undoes nearly all, or possibly more than all, of the benefit. Some people still like it, but you'll get less bass and less power for the same size. And it costs a fortune. There are likely better ways to spend your money. But if you really want to spend it on big cores, check out Lundahl. For push pull it can work better. And push pull sounds better anyway. Slagle has experimented with adding a winding for filaments that is in the opposite direction as the main winding allowing currents to cancel. No idea how successful he's been. For small signal stuff with no DC, nickel or amorphous or whatever is better that steel hands down. Where the dividing line is between small signal and large is the question. Interesting. Less than an hour from me. Might be worth a trip down one of these days.
  10. You mean because it looks like kiddie porn?
