  1. I say this with the best of intentions. Law schools arent going anywhere. Neither is Duke. Both have been around for a while and will likely continue to do so. I needed surgery in the past and had treatments to undergo for a malignant cancer and I continued going to school because at 22 I thought that was the most important think in my life. Looking back, had I taken the year off like the doctors suggested and then gone back, nothing would be different. Life would continue to go on. My suggestion would be to listen to the surgeon. Do exactly as the doctors say. Don't think about getting delayed a year or two. I'm in medical school right now and if my loans allowed it I would take the year off to get the surgery I need for my knee. Still trying to get a research spot so I can get my knee repaired. In the grand scheme of things, she needs to understand her health comes first. School isn't going anywhere. She has a lifetime ahead of her to make it to whatever academic designation she wishes to end at. She needs to concentrate on getting back to herself first. The same goes for you. Wish you both a speedy recovery.

  2. I've readjusted my short term goals. Next on my list is being mobile enough for a bowel movement. Honest enough? No more making 6 month plans...

  3. I finally got around to the power supply for my mini-kgst. I was able to get the +/-400V with delay, filaments, +/-15V and a +5V supply all on one board (5.9" x 6.25"). Here's what I came up with... Here's the 3D models from DipTrace. I did all of the non-standard 3D component models myself. I'm getting good at it. I ordered the wrong size caps for the HV supply . I'm going to put in another order and should have it up and running shortly. I redesigned the timer circuit because I'm using it with a solid state relay. There was a short ON burst in the older one that would turn on the relay for a small fraction of a second. This one keeps the output low until activation. I've been testing it for about a month and it seems to work well and is stable. It was a combination of reading the datasheet for the LM555, modeling some ideas in LTSpice and then testing on the bench. I'm usually careful, but made a mistake on placement of the charging capacitor. I had to move it, but got luck and it was a fairly simple surgery. I'm looking forward to getting the caps for the HV and testing it out the rest of the board. All in all I'm happy. Most parts are fairly accessible and it seems like I'll be able to get to them if need be. This board will mount under the top panel of the amp in the back. The transformer will sit on the top above the top panel directly above the supply. I'm using the Antek 100VA 350V transformer and steel case. More to come

  6. So you want them to not sell better iems if they make them, just so you can deal with it psychologically? Why not just stop looking when you find something you're happy with?

  7. While it's awful this had to happen at all, thank goodness both of you made it through. It sounds like a rough road ahead, but never stop being thankful for it. I'm sure that with time and effort, you can get to a place of contentment again. I'm pulling for both of you!

  12. Some of the older big Thiels can be had for amazingly cheap. I really have never liked them, though. They just don't sound good to my ear. However, I did buy some Harbeth SHL5's. They were a bit out of my initial budget, especially considering the overpriced stands they needed, but I like them very much. Not only do they look the part, but they sound great from everywhere in the room. I am powering them with an Adcom power amp I picked up off of eBay for about $120, and the sound is pretty spectacular. I had been planning to build super fancy power amps for them, but I am not sure I can see the point now.

  13. I'd actually like to stay way south of the city and stay in maybe Carlsbad or some other spot. Hit the meet for a day and then do brewery tours in San Diego and some hikes or cycling

  15. Osso Buco with this awesomely delicious Lokoya Cabernet. No pics because I have a agreement with the Osso Buco company and being that they are Italian and from Calabria I don't want to sleep with the fishes.
