  1. Just got home from work. I've got pasta cooking on the stove and Aretha cookin' on the stereo. Life's good!

  2. One of my coworkers brought in some heirloom tomatoes to share, so pasta was on the dinner menu.

  4. Progress! Are you going to have a counter / work table stretched across those two corner cabinets? I would want lots of work surface, which I didn't see in your drawing.

  5. Yep, it's a complete U shape now with corner cabinets. I never updated the drawing. My son wound up doing it in the CAD software they use for the cabinets. It'll be used to assemble all the DIY electronics and work from during the day. I still have 2.5 garage bays just in case I work on anything that's too big for that room. The last bit will be to install an A/C drop and vent. Since it's summer in FL the HVAC guys are hoppin it'll probably have to wait until next month but I'll get there. The countertop will be on tomorrow.

  6. BIg update with pics tonight... They're installing the cabinets today! In the last year it was: Framed out Electrical and network were run insulated, drywalled, and painted Mini soho network rack installed and all business class devices installed. 2.5G wired and Wi-Fi 6e (3 hardwired ceiling pucks) My son got a job at a cabinet company of all places so he had them build the cabinets and match them to the ones that are throughout the new house (wife insisted). I can finally start working on projects again after a 2 year hiatus! My first order of business is building a DAC, I sold mine and am down to a chord mojo.

  12. Thanks! It's a bit strange, because I'm used to being the guy that's 100% confident in his abilities on the job. But it's good to shake things up now and then. Also, there's a local carpenter named Jack that has done lots of work on Al's Fairfax house. In 2013 I worked with him on a bathroom remodel above the garage (Frank's old place). And he also saw me building some stuff for Al and Claire. Well on Friday he came into Fairfax Lumber, saw me working there and inquired about that. Augie (the president) started to introduce him to me, and Jack told him that we had worked together several years back. He also said that I could build anything and that I was the best carpenter he'd ever worked with. Not only did that make me feel great, it seemed to impress the boss even more. There's a guy who rents space from Fairfax Lumber who builds furniture on site. His name is Dean. Dean was also standing there, and told Augie to be careful or he'd steal me away from him. Just nice to be recognized for something I put decades of passion into.
