  1. Went to London today to see The Duchess, with Jodie Whittaker. (She was the only female Doctor in Dr Who, and was in Broadchurch) Modern setting of the early 1600's original play. Only partly successful in a modern setting, but a shocking and unsettling last 45 minutes. The Duchess's deranged brother ends up putting a gun in his mouth and pulls the trigger. There was a spray of blood from the back of his head - I have no idea how they did that. In the movies they use an electrically triggered blood capsule, but I've never seen that on stage before. So a play where everyone dies apart from one - the assassin, now reformed, who agrees to bring up the (dead) Duchess's son. https://trafalgartheatre.com/shows/the-duchess/

  2. So you take a slab of smoked pork belly, cube it up, and then deep fry it. Making them cracklin like.

  4. Trifonov taking on American music, classical, jazz, moderism, etc. The talent is obvious, decent sound quality. As you'd expect with the variety of genres, listening to the album straight through can feel clunky. Now

  5. He can drive and he has got that good luck belonging to the champions. That red flag right before he needed to swap tyres was a godsend that helped the mediocre Alpines. But the lot of people off the race that did not finish gives an idea of the track conditions yesterday.

  6. 2nd and 3rd in a rain race vaulting us way up the constructor’s charts. What a ≈ race, Alpine! 🇫🇷🥈🥉🇫🇷 Also that Max V. guy may be an asshole, but damn can he drive.

  9. This is a small one but already causing plenty of damage. This did crack me up from last night: All in Icelandic but on the bottom "It is unlikely that there will be an eruption in November"... from the day before. Then the next piece of news is "eruption started next to Stóra-Skógfell". Here is a view from 9am this morning from the small town I grew up in at the west edge of Reykjavik

  10. One of our most important Labour politicians, John Prescott, has died aged 86 after Alzheimers https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/ce9gp7eke44t https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Prescott That recounts a famous incident where a protestor threw an egg at him from behind. Feeling something running down the back of his neck, he turned and decked the guy with a punch. When Tony Blair (the PM at that time) asked him what happened, Prescott replied "I was carrying out your instruction to contact with the electorate"

  12. Wow. I learned that J. Saul Kane died. He was only 55. JSK was a fascinating character. In the early 90s, he played a huge role helping produce legendary rave tracks like EON's "Spice" JSK was best know for his solo work undfer the name Depth Charge where he combined elements of rave, breakbeat and house with kung fu samples. He was also a serious photographer, working mostly in his native London. JSK's other notable characteristic was his pure "no BS" policy. He neither gave nor took it. This made him an odd fit for the music industry, but he had so much raw talent he got ahead anyway. I was Facebook friends with him (ya rly) for like 15 years. He was one of the people whose activity where never not interesting, whether he was him excoriating some fevered ego like David Guetta, showing off his street photography, or some new piece of musical kit he had acquired. This only begins to cover how cool his studio was. Also JSK wasn't just a gear hoarder. He did amazing things with it. John understood sequencing, synthesis, mixing and mastering. John had the distinct aura of brilliance about him, which came through in everything her pursued. He's a man gone far too young, and completely irreplaceable. He will be missed. Rest in peace.
