  1. Brother came up this morning on his way to his place in NH. Dropped off 2 bottles of Ardbeg 25, plus additional surprises! The Ardbeg 25's come in a lovely Russian Doll type box set, the inner box has a nice metal design on it. The top of that inner box looks to click open and close on a hinged cover. The Smokiverse is another limited edition, this was an open bottle from a sampling day that one of his clients had. Looking forward to trying it, there's only a tiny bit left.

  2. Next up on "doing good shit for family" agenda: just gifted Karen's car (2018 Toyota RAV4) to my nephew and niece. Came up in a conversation last night that my brother was helping the kids look for a car. I asked what they were interested in, and based on his reply offered it up. Filled out the title paperwork and tax exemption for gift (though depending on blue book value I may have to pay a bit for being over the gift threshold). Kids came by and grabbed it today. The payback is "future considerations," but after chatting a bit my brother will get me a pair of Ardbeg 25 bottles he recently scrounged up at work. Yum!

  3. Saw this in a local parking lot. The first thing that came into my mind was "at least it looks a little better".

  4. Well it's earlier than I expected. I'll miss all of you! But I'm here at the pearly gates, talking to St. Peter. I've had a good life! What's that? Oh, just Peter? Peter Johnson? What? I have to leave now? I can't stay here for eternity? You say that you close at 5:00? Oh, OK. Can I come back sometime? Oh cool, thanks. See you next time Peter! Well everyone has their own idea of heaven I suppose. I'm gathering supplies to build a multi-function table saw jig.

  5. I should have more than enough left over Baltic Birch plywood for a splining jig accessorie and even more. T tracks, hold downs (another set of hold downs packaged with the long T track), knobs and a stop. All of this will make more sense once the jig is completed. Plenty of leftover Black laminate (I assume from the chop saw station), and some Ipe to build the bridge part of the jig, that will overlay the existing SawStop fence.

  9. Something I saw recently on YouTube. Bourbon Moth Woodworking. It also has several accessories to build for it as well. It'd take a while to explain everything it does, but cutting raised panels easily and safely is just one. I think I'll also build a splining accessorie too. Al built a basic one, but this should be a little easier and safer. There's a mortising attachment as well, but we built one years back for the router table. Might get a start on it tomorrow. More to come. Now I think I'll go eat at Red Robin, since I'm in Concord, CA. Yes, I bought the prettier Blue T tracks!

  10. The Paris Olympics were last year, a decade ago, or so it feels. So - Metal, Opera, decapitating the aristocracy, and a stadium of Ozzy fans. What's not to like.

  12. Related, Ozzy had a comeback in '88 with his hit song "Miracle Man" which is about Jimmy Swaggart.

  13. Paid a lot of money for a condo. Final closing paperwork tomorrow. Son and his GF will do some painting and maybe minor work, then move in ~mid-August. Thinking/hoping a ring is next!!

  14. No handles yet, but Steve will hopefully help with the install and then put on the handles in place. He will also frame the closet doorway and hang the doors when the time comes. Photos aren't great but you can get a sense of the finish and how the Rubio oyster pigment works into the grain and enriches the overall tone of the white oak. Pretty darn happy with the results, and the "clients" are going to check it out tomorrow so hoping they feel the same.

  15. Work has been continuing to use photos that I’ve been shooting for publicity and Congressional communication so I decided that rather than keep shooting with my personal camera that it was high time to request a replacement. They asked what I wanted so I spec’d the following: 1. Body - Sony A7R5 - I’ve gotten used to the Sony ecosystem through my A7IV and figured what the heck, might as well have all the megapixels. I don’t need 120FPS so the A9 series was not compelling and while it would have been fun to shoot with an A1II budget was somewhat of a consideration. 2. Lenses - I’ll continue to shoot my A7IV with it’s 24-240mm so figured I should cover an expanded range with this rig and be able to shoot high(er) quality. So a 24-70mm F2.8 GMII and a 100-4000mm F4.5/5.6 coupled with a 2x teleconverter round out the bag. I’ve got the whole shebang with me on vacation to get used to the platform and find its limits (me) but sheesh, 60MP is a lot to work with. Initial impression is that it’s all very similar to the A7 but doesn’t shoot low light as well. That won’t be much of a concern at work and if/when night time becomes the right time I’ll switch back to my A7 for those situations. The 100-400 has as lot of pull and with the 2x, it’s pretty absurd. That was lightly touched in LR and just a quick handheld at sunset. I’ll have to contribute more to the HC coffers if I start pushing up 40MB drink photos. And 12,800 starts to get a bit noisy so I’ve reduced the max ISO to 3200 for now to see what I can still grab. And [EDIT] seems like the forum software intelligently down-sampled that image to a more manageable 5MB. It is wild what you can do for fun crops with this much real estate.
