  1. I have found myself once again looking at studio monitors to use on my desk (to replace the Audioengine A5 which replaced the Quad 12LA when they broke). I keep going back to Adam, Dynaudio, Focal... I noticed today that BH Photo has them for $750/pair right now. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/696917-REG/Dynaudio_Acoustics_BM_5A_MKII_BM_5A_MKII_7.html That seems like a very good price and I have wanted to try a pair of Dynaudio for a while. I am tempted to get them but I noticed they only have XLR input. Right now, I use the GS-1 as my volume control. I assume the sound, balanced, straight from the ECD-1 would be better but I am not so sure if using the computer as volume control is such a great idea. Would it be better to do this or get a custom made RCA -> XLR cable and run them unbalanced. Or maybe I shouldn't get them at all because they wouldn't be that much better than the Audioengine A5 in an untreated room. Or maybe Colin could fix the Quad 12LA's when he is visiting in a couple of weeks.
  2. Good luck Larry.
  3. Congrat Vicki!!! That is pretty awesome.
  4. DAC got back a week ago and I finally got time to test it out. Sounds great and seems to work perfectly. They said they changed out the LCD which I guess got out of whack when I tried to put the top back on backwards. Glad it was under warranty! It's pretty awesome that PS Audio let's you open up the DAC and still honors the warranty.
  5. ^Ugh... do not like! Also do not like \/
  6. I thought about getting a BGE or Traeger for a long time. However, I wanted something I could put away in the garage when I wasn't using it (and Tim wanted something cheaper) so I ended up going with a Weber Smokey Mountain (18") which is $300, for smoking. For grilling, we have the small "Old Smokey" ($29) which is cheap but works great (they are made by a company here in Houston). The medium isn't that much more and would probably be better for a family. The small one is perfect for the two of us. Charcoal is much more work that a pellet or gas grill, but I like it.
  7. Size medium shirt (in mens or unisex). Most excellent!
  8. I love tri-tip.
  9. Thanks Greg!
  10. Grading.... it never ends. Got the PWD back on Friday but haven't had time to take it out of the box yet.
  11. Please fax!!!
  12. Great news Vicki!
  13. Nice Brent! I am jealous. My shoulder is still fucked up (bicep tendonitis) so I can't even properly ride a spinning bike (meaning I can't hold onto the handlebars). What really sucks is that it is not going to get better until I stop teaching for the semester which means I am going to miss all of the nicest weather in Houston for biking, tennis, etc (this started last September just as my hip was getting better). I'm tired of being injured.
  14. Someone let Jacob sleep on their couch/floor please! I would but don't think hubby would be very comfortable with that idea. Otherwise we'll lose another one!!!
  15. So bummed... and bummed some more.

    Audeze LCD-2

If you didn't want to build a dynalo/mid (the GS-1 was great with the LCD-2 imo), I bet you the Apex Arete would sound pretty damn awesome.
  19. OK, that is what I figured. The glass should be better, probably "better" bokeh but maybe not worth the price or the weight on a DX (since the cheap 1.8 is available there).
  20. I am tempted to buy a Sigma 35mm f/1.4 but already have the Nikon 35mm f/1.8. This would be used on D90 or D7100 (if I upgrade). Do you think this would be an unwise investment?
  21. Happy Birthday Fitz!
