  1. I never found Quadlink to be so bad. I'd give it a chance - it would solve your problem.
  2. Well yes but I did wait a while. I enjoyed the 666 posts!
  3. I had 303's for a while and the sound had an impossible peak somewhere in the upper mids/treble that caused a horrible sharp colouration on flutes with fundamentals around F/G 2 8ve's above middle C (I think the fundamentals would be around 1.2k?). Yeah, it was that specific, but it drove me crazy. Is that what you mean when you say the 'etch'?
  4. Source is Apple - landscape view in their standard text input applications (mail, notes...)
  5. I have an odd sensitivity in my left ear that causes a temporary decrease in hearing across the spectrum, and a permanent dip at 4k (still better than 0dB on an Audiology chart so no-one is willing to call it hearing loss) which I can 'hear'. I use 650's, and they really seem to set it off. This would appear to be noise exposure related hearing damage, except that I listen at relatively low levels, am never exposed to loud clubs or anything etc. etc. In any case, I just wanted to chime in and say that I am having issues with almost the same headphone. I say this because using Ety's, I don't have a problem. I wonder what's up with the 600/650 design?
  6. Handel's Messiah from Linn Records (88k/24bit FLAC).
  7. "Sources at Apple tell me that Apple is getting different prices than Amazon from the recording idustry. The record companies are, and have been for awhile, favoring Amazon. In fact, Amazon is selling songs for less than the price that Apple pays for them in some cases." From MacRumors.com. Apple's success has really scared the record companies - they can't handle the loss of control, and are subtly trying to break Apple down by supporting other vendors. This isn't 'competition' in the beneficial sense, as the pricing is still being set by a monopoly figure which is now using pricing as a way of maintaining that monopoly. Shame on them.
  8. Well there are a lot of little op-amp people in there now - 16 OPA627's with a bit of bias each. And the output tranny's have a higher bias current I believe. Still, I would not expect it to get 'hot'. Warm, yes. My Balanced Home w/Max Modules/DAC never really got warm - I miss that thing, wonder where it is now? No. 001...
  9. I believe both of those links are the same...
  10. HeadRoom Portable Micro Amp @ HeadRoom - Right Between Your Ears
  11. I don't think that's technically possible is it?
  12. Hey, Tyll, am I allowed to answer that question? (and would you like to donate me your prototype when you're done with it...?)
  13. I believe the ESS9008 has some pretty sweet tech to deal with this? Speaking of which, another entrant in to the sector at this sort of pricepoint: http://www.headphone.com/products/digital-to-analog-converters/headroom-ultra-desktop-dac.php
  14. Everyone jumped all over this poor dude, but I'd like to thank him for that tutorial. I found it useful, and am happy with the results...
  15. I'm happy with ER4's but with a bit of bass boost. I find the highs of the 4s to be very natural but that's just for me. The thing I noticed looking at the HR graphs is that the ety's have a lot of harmonic distortion - more than I've seen with any other 'phone, canal or otherwise, and their impulse response is worse than most other IEM's. What do people think about the Sleek's?
  16. Having posted those graphs, I'd point out that I still think they are having some issues with getting their measurements spot on with the new system. In the old system, the 650 and 600 had almost identical plots (with small differences in bass and treble response as expected). Now they are hugely different in the treble (and bass) region...
  17. And that the amp will need to produce a fairly large voltage swing - teensy portable amps probably needn't apply.
  18. Remember when we all laughed at this rendering...
  19. Welcome John! Don't have anything to add to the thread though, except that I saw an FR graph and it wasn't too abominable.
  20. I love my HDD based system, which makes me all the more irritated that there is still no standard delivery system for high-res digital music that can be transferred to and integrated with a HDD system.
  21. No they didn't. They used HA-5002's, which are rather dark, and get more so the lower the impedance as far as I'm aware.
  22. Who has ordered one? I have... who else?
