the HD800 sounds more like a K701 than HD650. A improved/fixed K701. Haven't heard the K812 myself.

Maybe the PM-2's are less shiny and doesn't come with the fancy wood box. lol

I'm a soldering noob and would like to know as well. I need to order some cheap mogami cable or something and some connectors to make a balanced cable. Any preferred vendor/model for the hd800 connector also?

Started listening a few hours ago to the hd800 I purchased from the Amazon deal... Am I allowed to enjoy them this much from a Gilmore Lite? Or is it mandatory to get a higher end amp first.

I got a good price on my Koss ESP-950, ~$300 used. So that plus a dac, maybe a AMB gamma2 or something.

I see his products and blog regularly brought up and recommended on various forums like Anandtech, Slickdeals, etc. whenever something headphone gear related is discussed. His followers are a very vocal and annoying bunch, kinda like their leader. They present his audio ideology/rants as absolute truth and anything that cost more than his products as snake oil or a ripoff.

it was neat when he tripped off and almost clobbered edstrelow's table/Stax gear.

I found the k701's to sound pretty bleh out of cheaper OTL tube amps. Sounded "ok" with a Zana Deux. I enjoy them out of a M^3 or Dynalo. I remember them sounding fairly good out of SSMH and CTH hybrid tube amps as well.
