  1. Old adage, but I find it true: everything in moderation. If you are actually learning, and it is not deteriorating your health nor your work nor your relationships, I see no harm in it. By nature we are social creatures, and as such always seek a community in some form or another.
  2. If this goes as planned, I'll take my Phonomena II so that you can test it in your rig. It's a new piece of gear that needs more exposure.
  3. I got it for $125 +$10 ship. If I do sell, I will let it go for $120 shipped. But I am not sure yet. Posting this PM as a reminder to myself of what I bought it for.
  4. Well, I finally got my last piece of gear yesterday: the Phonomena II. I had it sent to my parents' house since I'm hardly ever home to receive stuff. I will pick it up today (ordered it along with new inner sleeves for LP's - no point washing if I put them back in the old ones). I will also compare it with the highly-regarded as bang-for-buck CA 640P (which I got a good deal on in Audiogon). The 640P wasn't a planned purchase, but I read it is a good piece of gear. We'll see how the Phonomena II (at $600 new) does against it. Not to mention there are two cartridges in the house now (used MC cartridge ZYX Bloom and new MM cartridge AT150mlx). I won't begin any testing until next weekend, however. This week the FEDS are coming to audit the bank. So long hours at work me... Testing: Turntable: TD 125 Tonearm: SME 3009 series ii Improved Phono: CA 640P versus Phonomena II Cartridges: ZYX Bloom versus AT150mlx It will be fun seeing what combos work best. It will be a bit of a hassle switching cartridges... Come to think of it, I didn't even check if the Bloom is compatible with that old arm...
  5. Night time listening is the best. It's too bad I rarely have the opportunity for those sessions.
  6. Audioholics reference the BJC article in their citations.
  7. Came back home early. Couldn't stand the girl. Terrible date. I just saved her and myself the time. My brother left somewhere else... at least he's having fun.
  8. I hope I don't brick the thing. I will take pics of it sometime this weekend. Hopefully someone here will be patient enough to walk me through it. never DIY'ed anything electronic before (I know this is simple to most of you, but I have no clue how shit works).
  9. To my surprise, the tracking number I thought for delivery today did not belong to the transformer, but rather to my phono stage. When I went to check the status of my transformer order, it says "cancelled." Indeed, I didn't get charged for it. Now my options are: (1) order another one elsewhere (2) buy a soldering gun plus whatever materials I need, take some internal pics, and hope you guys can guide me through changing the voltage of the oo7ta amp. What to do, what to do... I am not liking how the 007's sound right now. Or should I just sell the amp and save up for a BHSE... (as if I could... sigh...)
  10. If that is true, sounds like the subtle change is just the color then...
  11. How are my soldering skills? Never done it. Besides, the new heavy-duty transformer arrives tomorrow, so that is all moot for me now.
  12. Not that my opinion matters much as I'm still a noob to all things audio, but I was surprised to hear people dislike the GS1000 so much. Then again, all my listening with them has been out of the P1, and shaizada's comments made me feel a bit more sure of my ears. Subtle differences for the next model won't be enough to get me to switch over. I'll need more than that.
  13. Lemme guess, P-1 SE... Perhaps I ought to add "SE" to my last name.
  14. Who/what is your source for this "word on the street" you speak of...
  15. I forgot that I can test this now with the BelCanto Dac3. I'll have to do some testing with the balanced side of the P-1 to see if it sounds better.
  16. Maybe this is my problem (besides the voltage issue). Hmmm... I should be receiving the transformer tomorrow to hear any improvements (if any, that is). The thing is, I am still wowed by them when I first connect them, but then something happens to the cheapie transformer the seller included. Over time, the sound gets kinda boring. I think the transformer just wasn't made for long-term use. If this doesnt work, I will sell the 007ta amp (with transformer), and get something up to the job.
  17. Are those dimensions inner or outer dimensions?
  18. I thought this was going to be about real mice...
  19. Well, from my chat convo with CJ, he has limited space, so (at least until now) he is letting me get some vinyl abums. I don't know if there is any gear. It might all be too much for me as well, so the loot I have, after I sort through it, I will post here and then maybe you guys can have your pickings? I don't even know how much I'll be picking up, but I'm willing to fill up my car with stuff the owner doesnt want, even books. I'll pass some of the wealth along. I'd feel bad not sharing a lil something. But I still like the race idea!
  20. Alex is picking up... Unless you want to have a race! Do you live near the Miami area? We can film the race and put it on youtube and everyone can see that head-casers are X-TREME! Mike can kick-off the race by shooting into the air. It'll be awesome!
  21. Grawk, I don't know how you did it, but today they actually look red...? I think they were offended by your dogpecker pink comment. Anyway, I am dead serious, they look red today, What the hell happened? Maybe I was looking at them under weird lighting first time before I connected and forgot about them.
  22. Help out your friend fix up the house. It is a good thing anyway. You might also learn a thing or two for when you get your own place. The free gear is a very nice gesture. I wouldn't even think about this.
  23. About the cables I ordered from noisycircuits.com: I wanted a red pair, but in real life they are closer to hot pink than red. So, don't make fun of my cables when you guys see them, mmkay? Thanks. I will probably order blue ones next, or yellow. Anything but black. Too much black already.
  24. I got a pair of XLR cables from NoisyCircuits.com aprrox. $22 for a pair plus shipping. I've been using them and hear no problems with it, but then again, these are my first balanced cables anyway. They are Mogami 2534 though, and I was in the market for those.
