Had a chance to see Mountain a few times and they were fantastic live! The last time I saw them they had become a very Hot act on the festival circuit. At that all weekend stadium show, they were the headlining act after Zappa and Traffic! We all rushed the stage and I remember thinking I was standing on the turf that Hank Aaron hit his record home run!

I am/was the moderator for the Tape Project forum and I have a modified Technics RS1500 with a custom tube output that replaces the 70's era solid state amp. I use that for listening to a collection of about 400 reel to reel tapes. I also have an Ampex ATR700 which is one of the last machines that Ampex sold. It was a collaboration between Ampex and Teac. I have a couple of head-blocks for the Ampex and I did some experimenting with the mono/full track head set processing tracks similar to what you're planning. The results were mixed, but in the long run, I ended up using tape machine plugins. I admit that my mixing chops weren't nearly what they should have been to make an honest assessment of the process but reel to reel tape is not the cheapest or quickest media to deal with and I'm pretty happy with the subtle results I get with the plugins I use. After running the Tape Project forum, I did get practiced at teaching and guiding other folks on the care and feeding of reel to reel tape machines. I wrote a guide which (although many links to pictures are now dead) still exists and may help you getting your Revox running. I'm a huge fan of these machines so I'd be happy to give you any advice you might need. Just PM me! Here's a link to the forum. I was hoping that would happen! A friend who grew up in Mexico City and became a major business man there, has taken his kids to see Checo race there every year (till 2020). He is not a racing fan but a proud Mexican.

End of another exciting (perhaps too exciting at points) season. The compressed schedule was a little too much IMHO. Hopefully, it was an exception and otherwise, F1 did a great job of presenting the fans with some great entertainment. Personally, I don't like to see races without at least a weeks break in between. It seems less like a special event and just another tv show. Just my uninformed opinion. I will wait to make a judgement on the expanded season next year but it feels like Liberty may have too much control over the season.

I knew he closed the shop but I didn't know that Brian moved. That was a fun place to spend an afternoon (if you didn't mind the cigars). He must've made a fortune selling his house in Los Gatos!

Dusty's right. TC Electronics, Dynaudio, Tannoy, TC Helicon are all smaller fish under the same corp umbrella. About the only thing they have in common are (sometimes) consolidated customer service pools, warehouses and shipping. Many have long and important places in pro audio. I remember when TC Electronics released one of the early interfaces with 96k converters! Imagine that! And their Icon 6000 System is still coveted in big post production film studios (Skywalker Sound, Sony/Universal) where they still apply the same algo reverb presets to lots of AAA films.

Can't remember a race that was more emotional that that one (maybe Massa's first retirement race in Brazil)!

Looks totally awesome! I've always thought that audiophiles would do much better to find a local(ish) craftsman to build their stands to order than to spend the outrageous sums the guys touted by the magazines demand.

Makes good sense to me Dan. I have little doubt that the next gen of "pro" level Macs will make my i9 iMac look weak, but at this point, I don't need +200 tracks. IMHO Content is King and 99.9% of folks could care less what gear was used to create something. My main concern is eliminating distractions and not having to stop to work out some bug.

The M1 Macs are too new and plenty of software has yet to made compatible with Big Sur, so we can only make educated guesses where 8G of ram might be a bottleneck. For now, I'd advise early adopters to max ram. It could make a huge difference in resale value if it turns out 8G is a real issue.

I'm not sure about the current crop but the big Clear Audio tables that look "oh so sexy" aways had the rep of having sub par bass. Supposedly those huge statement, floor standing Clear Audios corrected that,.. but the price!

A slightly de-tuned version of that processor is what is in my 2019 iMac. Takes everything I've thrown at it without a sweat so far. Other than the CalDigit dock, I only use tb2 with a Blackmagic Multidock. I rarely do video work so I don't really need much speed (sata 3 is fine).

Once you decide to make the leap to actual hardware check out Christian's series "Modular Mondays". It kinda slowed during Covid but still has popped up with a video here and there in 2020. Christian's my fav YouTube buddy (communicating through the video comments and my contributions to his companies checkout cart) and I look forward to all his videos. PianoBook is well worth becoming familiar with too (sample instruments are more of what I'm about).
