Assuming you have an external drive large enough, this is what I would do (and have done on numerous occasions myself with zero issues). 1. Do a full system backup to external drive with Time Machine, Super Duper, or Carbon Copy. 2. Boot to your ML SD drive (I use thumb drive), then partition new ssd to 1 partition with Disk Utility and then install ML. 3. When ML installed on SSD, use Migration Assistant to bring over user data and Applications from backup. "It just works" Antonio, you don't say, but I assume you will use your SSD as boot/system drive, and the 1tb in the optical bay for data? I have no experience with making a Fusion drive manually, so can't comment.

Mike, JP, Raffy, and Vicki have been pissing me off with all this bike mania, so I decided to join them in the madness. Picking up my Scott SUB 10 tomorrow. It's an "urban" bike - don't you love marketing? Should be just right for me - I want to ride for exercise, don't need off road capability (been there, done that, have scars to prove it), and don't need to be fastest,. Also appeals to the tech geek in me - Gates Carbon Drive, Shimano Alfine 8 speed hub, Shimano hydraulic discs. Watch out, people, I'm comin' for you, and I'm coming now!

CJ ... if you aren't averse to using command line in Terminal, and know where the files are, you can change attributes there. Lots of other stuff, too. Here's a primer: OS X Terminal Commands In particular, CHFLAGS, will allow changing attributes.

CJ ... Try this - it works for me. Open Terminal and copy/paste: defaults write com.apple.Finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE; killall Finder This allows all hidden files to be visible in Finder. You can delete them using the normal GUI way with Finder. Then back to Terminal and copy/paste: defaults write com.apple.Finder AppleShowAllFiles FALSE; killall Finder This will get you back to normal.

Ah ... I missed that you were copying all the files - thought you just formatted, and had junk left. So, if I understand correctly, you have hidden windows files taking up space on your os x drives. hmmmm, what did you use to do the copying? A cloner like Super Duper or Carbon Copy?

cj ... did you partition those drives prior to reformatting to OS/X journaled? If not, try partitioning to a single partition. I'm guessing that should get rid of any ntfs remnants, hidden or not. Of course, you should do this with OS X Disk Manager.

Dinny ... what external drives do you already have? What will you use external for? I had two FW 800 externals, so just bought the Apple TB to FW converter for $29 and use those. If/when I want to replace or add additional, I'll go TB, but will likely wait out pricing a bit longer. USB 3 specs look good, but TB likely will sustain performance with continued access, and you can chain devices. If you have Seagate drives, either GoFlex, GoFlex Desk, or Backup Plus, you can get a TB adapter to convert to TB. Tempting for me, as I have a 2tb GoFlex Desk already. Best deals I've seen on Tunderbolt are Buffalo for $199, and Seagate GoFlex for $240 - both are 1tb capacity.
