Koss ESP/950 electrostat thread
My temp fix for squealing is to press the headphones against my ear... and I have no idea why it works, but it does (with vintage round-driver stax)

Heh, I've returned the ebay silver XLRs and got someone to build a pair out of cotton insulated silver I did like the ebay silver XLRs a lot though.

Memory Distortion - 100dB Feedback Amp on step 8
Memory Distortion Philosophies I have no idea what he's talking about... but the way his design blatantly goes against all "audiophile design philosophy" is rather intriguing

Gilmore Reference Balanced?
^Sweet tuner(s). I'm looking for something decent, but nothing in that price range

Another Stax Omega 2 setup
I've always wondered why people didn't do that in the first place There are reasons why that won't work with any given tube amp, right? Or is it just because they usually won't give you enough voltage swing? (say, if I tried this with some random P-P DHT amp on YJ )

Uh, if you can return these, you should. Channel imbalance is one of the first signs of driver death with electrostats. ...Then get a SR-5NB, they rock, much more so than the SR-Xmk3 But the SR-Xmk3 is very good, nevertheless.

XLR interconnect recommendations
The Starquad has a conductor capacitance 46 pf per foot and a shield capacitance 57 pf per foot, while the Belden cable only has 13 pf per foot, so going by specs alone, I'd take the Belden

W10VTGs
Ok, I just realised that the balance was somehow related to the way the pads were aligned with each other. Quick Review: I really like them, and I agree with everything Grawk and Kirkwall's said about them. They do music in a way that is completely different from the stats - I could write a fair bit on how technically flawed they are but they're so sweet you could completely ignore their flaws and just listen to the music. And god they're beautiful.

W10VTGs
Nope, it isn't my hearing, unless all of my other headphones were balanced the wrong way. Turning them around doesn't work so well either, since the drivers are angled something like 30 degrees towards the ears. Anyway, the balance is perfectly centered now. Its a pity that I can't listen to it out of my main source, but they're excellent even out of inferior sources, like my laptop's headphone out (which isn't that bad, actually).

W10VTGs
Things are getting a tad strange now... the balance is drifting back to the center. Since when did dynamic headphones need charging up? >.>

W10VTGs
I got my W10VTGs today, and they do sound great right out of my zune. But they also have some channel imbalance and I can't adjust the balance on my zune - not that it would be acceptable at any rate. In case the seller refuses to let me return the phones, where would the damage most likely be in? The drivers themselves, or the wires that link the left side to the right? (The left side is louder)

The Stax Transformer project
I doubt that he meant to fit them in the original box

I can't check it without removing at least some of the adhesive (its not the "eco friendly" tape, and is much stronger than that), but I think the service record indicates that only the membranes were replaced. It only costed 10,000 yen, so a full driver replacement is somewhat unlikely.

So, when talking "high-end" DACs....
The monica uses the TDA1545, while the Lite DAC-AH uses the TDA1543.

Well, that could be the reason my LP is downright midrange-centric, rather than midrange-recessed
